Meeting other dogs?? My 3-month-old, Ella, has met a few dogs around the apartment complex, and we've noticed a problem with her. She gets so excited that she jumps around the dogs and puts her paws in their faces, which the other dogs (understandably) are not too excited about. They don't go after her, just back up and look uncomfortable. Is this aggression? She doesn't bark or bite or growl, she just seems way too excited to be around another dog. Is there something we can do to calm her down so she can interact with other dogs without freaking them out? I've tried picking her up for a while til she settles down, but then she goes back to being too excited. Puppy training class is in our future, but they won't start for a few weeks. |
Hello I can relate but this behavior is very normal. I am in the middle with my puppy class and it's an amazing experience for both of us. They get to play with other puppies. Don't worry about the other dogs freaking out, it's dog play that they understand. If they don't like it they will let her know. Bigos usually plays with other puppies and they put him in his place every few minutes. We also share a backyard with an adult small dog and they go crazy together...bitting, jumping barking, which gets him used to the real word. Aneta |
Alfie is a little too young yet.. but we plan on doing a puppy class... he does the same thing, gets all wound up and jumps all over people and other dogs (and my cat too!)... he just can't help but get very excited.. and he even pees some as well.. Good luck! |

It's possible that she was taken from her mother before she was properly socialized. Allowing her to interact with other dogs will help her to become more socialized. Dogs recognize puppies as being babies, and although they might snap at her they will not hurt her. It is just the way that dogs tell each other "your annoying". |
You could also try doggie daycare for a couple of hours to get them socialized. I did 2 hours and plan to do once or twice a month. |
