what kind of chew toys Hello, I am a brand new yorkie mom, my dream dog. My baby is Lucy Lu and she is 12 weeks old and weighs 1 pound, what kiind of chew toy should I get her? Also what kind of treats do I buy to reward her when she goes potty outside? I love her so much. She is my baby. I am so lucky. Thank you for all of your advice this is a great site. Also how do you get her use to bows in her hair? Can I give her a bath now or is she too young? Thank you Robin :animal-pa |
Hi and welcome to you and Lucy Lu. Hope we get to meet her soon. As for bows, if her hair is still thin on top, I wouldn't put any rubber bands in it till she's older. Get those little teeth like clips instead. As for treats, you don't need to give her treats when she goes potty outside. Just start praising her when she's almost finished by saying "good potty" in a sweet voice. For something to chew on, buy 1/2" thick beef femur bones for her to chew on. Ask the butcher to cut them for you. She can be given a bath. Just make it quick and simple, not scaring her. Keep your face by hers and talk softly to her and give her a kiss now and then while bathing her. Quicky wrap her in a towel and not let her get cold. This is also a good time to get her used to hearing a hair dryer. I would wrap mine in a towel then just blow the warm air into the towel so they would stay warm while getting dry. :D |
Welcome to YT...glad you found us! Can't wait to see pictures...hehe As far as giving her a bath...she is old enough to get one. A lot of members here enjoys the everlasting treat ball...hehe...you don't have to actually give her a treat for going potty...a lot of praise, pat on head, or belly rub works just as well. I wouldn't put bows in her hair just yet until it gets a little thicker. lol |
I'm a big advocate of treat giving when going to the potty outside. My 12 week old pup hasn't had any accidents in 3 days (and we've only had her for a week and a half). She knew she was supposed to go outside about 5 days after we got her, but she'd have the occasional accident about once a day. I'd give her a half a cheerio each time she'd go outside, and it worked great!!! I really had to watch her constantly and bring her outside often, but whenever she went outside she'd get her treat, and when she went inside we'd usually catch her mid act and say NO and pick her up, put her outside and praise her and give her a treat. She caught on pretty quick. After she goes about 2 weeks with no accidents then I'll stop giving her a treat when she goes outside, and just reward her with praise. We also left our sliding door open all day long so she knew she could just go out there whenever she wanted and do her thing. Now she'll sit infront of the door and wait until we notice her, or she'll make a fuss until we open it. |
We use kong toys with a little bit of peanut butter in them for all of the dogs it keeps them busy |
