Obsessed with his potty pad?! 12 week old Oscar is home along for about 5 hours a day during the work week. He's locked in a spare bathroom with crate, pad, toys, water and tv noise. 80% of the time he's going on his pad. Great? No, not great. He pretty much refuses to go outside! He will hold it and hold it and hold it till he's let out in the house and will go on the carpet or put in his bathroom. (and when I say hold it I mean up to 14 hours?!) The ONLY exception is a long walk, where he will only go #2 and he pops a squat in the middle or the street, walkway, wherever. Please help me wean him of his potty pad. |
i wouldnt wean him off his pottypad if your not going to be around. when he does potty on his pad, you need to praise him, praise him, praise him. and when u do take him out, dont come back in until he pottys. and praise again... its going to take awhile, please be patient, he is still a puppy |
giving treats also helps! my ted was starting to gain a little too much from the treats so i use nutrical for his treat b/c he loves that stuff so much. |
All of mine prefer the pad to outside but if left outside when it is 'time' like first thing in the morning before going on the pad then they will go outside. To train for outside try putting a pad outside to see if this works. |
I also use the pads exclusively for my puppy but I was told that if I wanted to train him to go outside I should take the pad outside and put it down, when he gets used to using that for awhile outside, take the pad away and he will go when he is outside. Hope that helps. |
I guess wean wasn't the right word... I just want to get him comfortable with going outside as well and right now he is NOT have'n it! |
