Crates for Yorkies I'm planning on crate training Sango. I was wondering what size/brand crate do you guys recommend? |
I got the lsmallest crate I could for Mollie. It was still to big for her as puppy, but it came with a movable/removable to make the crate any size inside. At first I left only enough room for her to lay, while I was potty training. Then started moving the wall to make the inside of the crate larger and finally removed it. |
I got the small one at walmart for like 14.00..its the perfect fit.....I love it..nice and cheap. :) Kristy and Mason |
Can a travel kennel be used as a crate? Or does it have to be one that looks like a metal cage? Sorry if my questions sound dumb. Real newbie here to crate training. |
when i first got lexi, i used the travel crate,. but then got metal crate.. i think the metal is better. you can see them and they can see their surroundings while in there.... |
Mine is the small plasic travel crate...Mason seems to like it ok.... just your preference i guess on what you want to use. Your questions are NOT dumb..NO questions are dumb...this is the place to find out what you need.. Never be afraid to ask a question. :D Kristy and Mason |
i had a plastic crate, but i got a wire crrate shortly after.... you have to figure out what it best for youre pup. The plastic crate i got for toby didnt have a lot of ventilation and it gets HOT here (i live in california ) and i cant afford to air condition the house all day, so i got him a wire crate which has TONS of ventilation because it is practically open, much better for toby..... i got one that was medium sized so that he can lounge in there (he will NEVER poop in his crate, he did it the first night and NEVER since then) |
Brad has a medium sized wire crate. Plenty of room for his bed to fit although he like to lay on the plastic bottom of the crate most of the time instead. |
Thanks for the feedback guys! I'll probably pick up a crate for Sango tonight!! :aimeeyork |
Your question is completely valid, NOT dumb ;) I started off with the smallest travel crate and put a blanket in the back - no room to pee or poo anywhere! After a few weeks, they need more room. After the travel crate training, I changed to an x-pen in my living room but some people also use the cages. I think both are great. Good luck with your training. |
