My Laci doesn't like other dogs
 
I don't understand why my dog doesn't like any other dogs. If a puppy comes to play with her she just gets jealous and growls and barks at them. It makes me sad because she's so friendly to people... but not to other dogs (other than the one she lives with). Does anybody have any advice? or is it a lost cause.

My Murfee is the same way. He has never learned to socialize and play with other dogs....and he is 4. I have taken him to meet ups and he is either always in my arms or standing right next to me. Good luck.

My little PipePipe is a jealous thing she hates for me to hold or pet other animals (the ones that live with us included) Apparently I am only her mommy

Layla HATES puppies.. but older dogs that are calm and will lay down so she can approach them- she gets along with fine. I can't blame her.. she is tiny and every other dog is huge and they all just come right at her.. she gets scared and ends up snapping at them.

It could be because she doesn't think she's a dog. Do you know anyone that has a nice friendly dog that you could arrange play dates with? I don't think it's a lost cause, but it will take effort on your part if you want he to become more social.

That's how Wrigley is!
If big dogs or any dog comes running up to her and starts jumping on her, she gets scared. If she can't retreat somewhere then she snaps. She's never actually bitten, I think it's more of a "get away from me" snap! If they don't approach her, then she will go up and sniff them out! I guess it sounds like she wants it to go on her terms!
I think it's because when she was in puppy kindergarten, there was a wild Boxer and a wild Labradoodle that pounced on her all the time!
She loves smooching with the male dog next door through the fence though!

thanks a lot for letting me know i'm not the only one with a bit of a snooty dog haha. i heard that if you introduce them to a lot of other dogs when they're younger... like 3-6 months old then they are alright with other dogs.. but shes now a year and a half. i guess i'll have to get some friends for her if they're patient enough. thanks guys! :aimeeyork

I live near Buffalo also in West Seneca! Welcome to YT! My Lulu isn't very used to other dogs either. She doesn't like other dogs sniffing her and gets a little nervous if they try to play with her. She isn't around dogs a lot. We joined a small dog meetup and she has gotten better and isn't as afraid. She still sits near me a lot when we go to the meetups but she is starting to venture out with the other dogs. If you are interested in joining the meetups, here is the website: The Buffalo NY Chihuahua Meetup Group (Buffalo, NY) - Meetup.com There are mostly chihuahuas but there a couple of Yorkies. It is a fun group!
