Training while working FT? How old was your pup when he/she was fully trained? The pup I'm getting uses pup pads *usually* with the breeder, but I want her to only go outside eventually. Also my hubby doesn't like the idea of buying the pads so we'd probably use newspaper (not sure if that'd confuse the pup?) There won't be anyone home from 8am to 530pm, so I am concerned this could be a long road! I have a beagle that is trained and everything I read and heard was beagles are very hard to train (and it was difficult), but we managed! Any tips or suggestions from anyone who worked all day?? I am going to keep her in a small carrier during the day unless anyone has a better idea... Maybe at first she should have a slightly bigger space until her bladder would be able to handle longer hours?? I don't want to come home everyday to a stinky and filthy pup, lol. Thanks! I'm so excited to get her, wish I could take a week off to hang out with her, lol. |
I just got my new puppy about a week and half ago. We are training him to go outside also, and is doing a good job. When we are inside I do have a puppy pad down, but he dosent notice it, but I also keep a Belly Band/WeeWEE Wrap on him as well for accidents. Both my boyfriend and I work full time, me leaving the house at 6:30 and boyfriend at 9:30, the puppy is alone for at least 6 hours. For now we put him in his crate, he likes it in there and I think he feels safe, and he does fine. We will eventually get him a X-pen when he gets bigger so he will have more space. Your pup will do fine alone, everyone has to work! Maybe you could try to train him for going outside and using the papers inside too :D |

I would encourage you to take a few days off if possible or arrange a friend or family member to drop by mid afternoon to let your puppy out to potty. I got Lucy almost 3 years ago over Thanksgiving break so that I could start training right away and she caught on very quickly. Once school started back up my dad was home during the day to let her potty in the afternoon. Some dogs can hold their urine longer than others. I am getting a new puppy as well and I am about to start a full-time job. I am going to try to schedule it so that I have a couple of weeks to start crate training the new pup as this method worked wonders for me with Lucy. Good luck! |
