Name recognition What is a good way to teach our pups their names? Just by using them is what I was always taught, but just was seeing if any of you have any other pointers that could help us out. Thanks! |
I think my puppy knew his name by the second day we had him...i just kept saying his name repeatedly...even if he was playing in the other room. Now when he's sitting next to me and i call his name..he sorta tilts his head and looks at me. By the way...congrats on the wedding! |
Thanks! And yeah they have been getting better... |
Hi everyone I am glad to have register here for the first time I am a new yorkie dad. my baby now is 9 weeks old he is my adorable little angel his name Valentine... I am just concerned I got my baby 1 day ago and he sounds like he has like a congested coughing I m not sure if this is due to him being here recently or what but please i would appreciated if someone out there helps me. I dont want him to get sick. although I m taking him next week to the vet. Thanks. Fernando:) |

You should probably repost this in the health forum and you may get other responses. |
They learn their names very quickly. Kayla even knows the difference in Tina and Mandy. I can ask her where Mandy or Tina is and she knows exactly what I am talking about. I think they learn more and more the more you teach and spend time with them. We talk to ours just like they were kids. |
What I've found to work best is individual attention. Quote:

Yeah I notice that they are getting better and better with there names, and I taught them how to sit yesterday which was pretty simple. Now I just have to have my wife leave me the camera home so I can put some pictures up..... |
I'm still surprised at how Duke learned his name so quickly but then again yorkies are smart dogs. I think he learned it within the first couple days that I got him. We just repeated call him and say his name while petting him. |
I constantly call him by his name and he recognizes it. Whenever I say Peanut! he raises his head and little ears and looks at me. |
Yeah they go it now, we have ahd them for a week now so we are good.... |
Names Hi there! I did the same thing as most people in this thread have said -- just kept repeating my baby's name and she got to know it pretty fast. It's funny because she also responds to the various other things I call her, like "sweet pea" and "baby girl" etc. She always perks right up and looks at me when I use her name, Pixel, but it's cute to see her respond to the other endearing terms my sister and I use. Dogs are pretty clever that way. :) |
