is it possible? Ok hi everyone! My Yorkie is 7 mos old. She wasn't crate trained and was doing great, sleeping downstairs on the couch and not making a peep. She wasn't peeing or pooping either. This past weekend she has found things and destroyed them overnight. So NOW we are putting her in the crate at night. but she cries ALL NIGHT. How do I do this now that she was free for 3 months? I am also starting to think she is the biggest YORKIE ever. She is 9 pounds already! PLEASE HELP ME> |
Well, I am assuming that you are going to have to get her used to it just as if you started when you brought her home. Try putting her in a few minutes each day, like 5minutes, then move to 10 minutes. Maybe put her in the crate if you have to run a quick errand. Just to start to get her used to it. Then you'll just have to let her cry. And I'm sure she will cry alot. Try getting some ear plugs, that's what I had to do for my bf so he could sleep. What ever you do, don't take her out just because you feel sorry for her. She will learn that she can get away with that. Be firm, but fair. I know that it's not exactly what you wanted to hear, but she will eventually get used to it. Just be patient. |
It's never too late to start but like Deegan's mom said, "you just have to let her cry" BTW, when she start crying and you keep giving in, she will learn really fast that if she cries long enough you will give in, so DON'T. Good luck! |
We got gidget when she was 5 months old and never crate trained her but then like you had said when we would come back from places the hose would be torn apart...we got a crate and put her in it when we leave now (at night she sleeps on the souch and it seems that if we are in the house she has no issues) Anyhow she wouldnt go in there so I sat by the crate and put her in there and shut the door still sitting there and then opened it and gave her a little treat then shut the door for a bit longer and moved a bit away kept doing this till I was in the other room and it was a few min in the crate.......I just did that one day and now she loves it....sometime I will wonder where she is and she is asleep in there all on her own.....she still barks and has a fit when we leave out someplace (she wants to go along for the ride) But when we come home she is doing her big drama stretch so i know she has been napping. |
