Training - Sit and Down Hi Guys - The last couple weeks I've really worked hard on training Jackamo. She's really smart and a quick learner. I started with 'sit', 'down', and now 'stay' and she's picked them up fairly well. The only problem now is that she gets 'sit' and 'down' completely confused, whenever I ask her to sit she immediately just goes down. She still goes 'down' when I ask her, but can't differentiate the two. Was just wondering if anyone else had this problem and what you did to fix it? Thanks |

My Max does the same.. Well the times he wants to listen to me anyways.. He always ends up lying down on his tummy instead of sitting down.. Sometimes he looks like he is scared of me when I tell him to sit.. Other times he thinks its play time and he runs off with his tiny tail wiggeling like crazy... think my boy is a little dumb dumb ;):D |
Tbone had a problem with this, but I started teaching him to go from a laydown to a sit, instead of always sit, lay down, and stay. I mix it up to keep his attention. So when he did it wrong he was more inclined to go strait to a sit from that position. I also use hand signals along with the word. Down is one finger pointed to the floor, and sit is all of my fingers held together pointed up. They do it without the verbal commands now. But sometimes he still goes to the laydown and quickly figures it out. Hey, I never got 100% on every test I took in the 20 years I was in school. :D |
They are so funny! When I was teaching sammy sit, down an paw he'd look at me with this confused face andI'm say sit and he'd give me paw instead. And he ALWAYS got food and sleep wrong. My daughter would say sleep and he'd go to his bowl. THis is what I did- when he'd get confused I wouldn't reward him. I would gentl say no and put him back in he starting position. For exampl, if said sit and he gave me paw, I'd say no and stand him back up. It took a few timesbut he got it. I remember once, we went on for like 20 minutes. THen I felt bad and gave up till next time. |
My Bishon mix does this also my trainer told me also to mix it up that she is anticipating what I want her to do. So now I mix up sit, down w/ down sit ,up, stay and so forth,:) |
