Going back to work and leaving Coco alone Hi all, I need some advice, we just got coco approx one week ago and I am trying to figure out the best way to keep him when kids go back to school and we will be working all day. We currently are crate training him but since we are home most of the time we only put him in it all night (he does not mind it and sleeps well, though I do keep him by my bed). Would it be better to put him in his crate all day when we are back to school and work (I have a water bottle on the crate). Or I have a bathroom that is just big enough for his crate and his food and water where I can gate it off, so he won't be cooped up in just his crate all day. I feel so guilty having to leave him for so long eventually. Anyone have any advice? Is it possible to crate train him for sleeping at night and leave him in my bathroom gated off for during the days? or will that encourage him to have accidents? He is doing really well with potty training, he goes outside, though we have to be on top of him to make sure he goes outside when he needs to. This will be more difficult when we are not home.:animal36 |
We work and keep Bailey in an ex-pen all day - with water and a pee pad in a litter box. You're right - you can't potty train when you're not there - but fortunately, dogs learn to keep their space clean. Knowing that - I just cleaned her pen every day while she was a puppy - and as they said, she eventually learned to hold it. On the rare occasion she needs to pee during the day - she goes in the litter box - otherwise, she pees outside. I don't believe that her staying in a pen inhibited our house potty training - as we accomplished that in 2 months. Good luck. |
