getting into trouble Hello gang, I am new to the site. I have a female 7 mo old yorkie. We got her when she was 3 1/2 months old. We tried crate trying but she cried and cried and we couldn't bear it. So she has been allowed to sleep on the couch overnight and it has been working great. She is potty trained to go outside and is fine. The last 2 nights she has gotten into things and destryoed them: my plants w/dirt all over, and shredded up magazines, and chewed up a car seat. Can anyone tell me what is going on?? We are now putting her in the crate which doesn't make sense to me, but we can't let her destroy the house. HELP! |
I really have no idea. She's still a puppy. Just some thoughts off the top of my head: 1) Maybe she's mad 'cause she doesn't get to sleep with you? 2) Perhaps she doesn't get enough exercise during the day and evening, so that she is tired enough to sleep through the night? 3) Does she have enough toys to keep her entertained and the people willing to spend the time playing with her? 4) Did her adult teeth come in OK? Were the baby teeth removed if they all didn't come out? As I said, I have no idea. Just throwing some ideas out there to consider. :) |
It's hard to say. Was it her first offense? It could just be a passing phase. Teddy had a phase that he would go around the whole house looking for pens and pencils to chew up. He did it for 3 months and then he suddenly stop. No figure?? |
troublemaker No it wasn't her first offense, she ate a plant a couple of weeks ago, but that was because we were at a wedding and she was mad that we weren't home. This was just any other night. All her adult teeth are in and baby teeth gone. She has never slept with us before. Do you think I will have any success putting her in the crate at night now? Should I put her in a little during the day too? Is the crate suppose to be in the bedroom w/us? Or is it OK to leave downstairs? I don't want to make MORE problems for myself now. This is soooooo frustrating. |
Gus did this aswell. He hated his crate. He has his big crate/cage that has his food and water and is never closed. He doesnt use this other then to eat, drink, and hide things. He has a small crate upstairs in my room right next to my side of the bed that he sleeps in with the door shut all night and is fine as long as I'm there by him. He also has another small crate with no door down here that he loves and is mostly in there when he is not sitting my my lap or sitting on my feet under the desk while I'm on the computer. Is your crate in the same room as you over night? That sometimes works if she knows your there with her. As for destroying stage,,,,, my Gus will still get into some messes. He loves toilet paper or any paper for that matter. The only paper he wont destroy is his potty pads. And he has gotten ahold of a plant or 2 but I now keep them out of his reach bcause they can be poisonous for them. Just keep trying the crate. You have to show her who's the boss. And she will get used to it. Good luck to you and welcome to TY!!! |
I would say this is just a phase...both of my girls went through this so called rebellion stage...they test the limits and see what they can get away with..now is the time to really set the tone of how things are going to be...when you find her doing things like that you have to tell her no and make her understand that is not appropriate...if you find it after the fat, just clean up and move on by that time she will have forgotten what she did!! Good luck with her...things will get better before you know it!! |
Instant Success!! I brought Tiki Home at 3 mos old. I bought him his own bed, put it on the floor, next to my bed with a night light near his bed. He slept quiet, all night. Never cries. He knows you are there - near. He did get out a few times during the night on his own and pee. His pee pads were in the same room - door closed. He then went back to his bed and back to peacefull night sleep for everyone. We never had a sleepless night since I brought him home. Try it. |
