How old was your boy when he was fixed & did it stop him from marking? I have tried everything. I posted about losing my mind. Getting him neutered is my next and last step. He is almost three. How many of ya'lls babies were neutered late and did it help any with the marking? |
If he is three, marking is already a learned behavior. Neutering him won't stop him from marking. However, I would still get him neutered. Have you tried a bellyband in the house? It is a miracle for me! One of my dogs is a twelve year old Cairn-poo.....he has been neutered since puppyhood, and he still marks!! If I didn't use a bellyband on him, I would have strangled him long ago! |
I use the belly bands as a matter of fact I made three more tonight, However he marks with the bellt band on. I have got to where I dont like using them because I have to change them every few mins. |
My female marks. Both my males were neutered at 6 months old. Reese does not mark. Reggie has been marking since before he was neutered. Fortunately no one marks inside my house. |
Sunnie was 3 1/2 when he was nuetered and he used to mark all the time. He is now 4 1/2 and has totally quit marking |
max was about 5 months when neutered and had not started marking yet and fortunately at 1 1/2 he still doesnt mark. I think its different for all dogs, it might help it might not. hoping hes one that it does help :) |
my male was neuterd around 5 mo. old and never learned to mark, and my female marks outside only ! |
I got Timmy neutered at 1 1/2 yrs old. The marking stopped immediately after he got neutered and he hasn't marked since. |
I guess I will never know until I try. |
I had mine neutered at 19 weeks. He hadn't started marking before he was fixed, but learned it after. He only marks outside though; & we have to remind him not too in Petsmart. Maybe you could teach him not too in the house, like training a puppy say no & take him outside. In petsmart when I see Logan lift his leg to pee I say uh-uh not inside & he stops. Occasionally I don't catch him in time & i have to clean up a little mess, but he never does it at home. |

I was wanting to know what age myself. Pepper hasn't started marking yet, but feel it won't be long. The vet wants to wait till he is about six months old. He just turned 5 months old. Guess we will be getting it done pretty soon. |
We have two females now but had a male yorkie years ago. I remember that he was neutered close to 6 months of age, and he never did mark. As a matter of fact he continued to squat like a female and never even lifted his leg. I think he tried once, but then fell over. LOL :D |
I got Dusty when He was 8 months old. He had started lifting his leg to mark outside and they all thought it was the cutest thing. so he marks everything in and outside the house now. I called the vet as soon as I got him and they said it was too late. Now veryone is telling me that I should go ahead and do it. |
Harley was a little over 2 when I got him. He had been used for breeding and was a really bad marker. In fact he had not been in my living room for over 20 secs. and he lifted his leg on me, my son, and my TV!!! I used belly bands because I did not want him to have surgery till he had gotten used to his new home and family and it seemed like he was marking every 10 mins! He marked for a couple of months after surgery, and now he is the best of all my dogs. I keep a pad tucked away in the corner and he even squats when he uses is. It may not help with all males, but it sure did with ours. Kathy-Ut |
My moms dog, who she got from me, is 8 year old and has never been neutered and he does not mark in the house. She has had him since he was about 14 weeks old. But, he is the only dog in the house so he has no competition. |
Chachi was neutered at 7 mos and only marks outside and at places like Petsmart |

I hate to say this out loud but it has got to the point to where if something dont change I dont think I can put up with this for much longer. I love him to death, he is my heart but, he is driving me crazy. I have been keeping belly bands on him for the last few day's none stop and I am changing them none stop. I hate to make him go through surgery and him be just as bad but I think this is the only option I have left. |
neutering will likely not stop it. terriers in general are dominant dogs. my yorkie is neutered, and enjoys marking everything (he was neutered by the breeder right before being picked up at 4 months). my guess is, your dog will mark for the rest of his hopefully long life. |
