Yorkie growth I just purchased a little yorkie puppy and received him via airplane on Jan. 6th. I have been told that Yorkie's stop growing bigger at the age of 20-24 months. I have also heard that a good estimate of adult size is doubling their 8, or possibly 12, week old weight. Do these thoughts sound correct to you? |

Young Yorkies will grow very fast. Just make sure they don't continually overeat, as they will have to go on a diet eventually. Seeing a poor Yorkie beg and beg for food will make you sad! |
Yes, they do grow up VERY FAST! Sometimes I wonder if they know they can stop eating! |
Yogis Mom Yes, I'm sitting here now eating chicken salad and trying to ignore begging. My yogi keeps moving where he can see he's in my eyesight. They are too smart. Yogi weighed 1#8oz at 13 weeks he is now 10 1/2 months and weighs 4#4 oz. He begs to eat all the time! |
Its triple the 8 week weight and double the twelve week weight and that gives you an estimate. |
We keep a big stuffed doggie pillow in the corner of the kitchen. When my husband and I sit at the kitchen table to eat, I just tell Muffie "go to your bed" and little Missy just follows her. I can't stand for dogs to "stare" at me while I'm eating! lol Just a pet peeve! :) |
Remember that all that anyone can give you is a guesstimate on the final weight. I bought an 8 week old puppy who weighed 2.10# when I took him to the vet. At a year he weighed approximately 10#. Now nearing 2 years old he weighs 11# and a couple of ozs. I don't remember how much he weighed at 12 weeks but neither tripling his weight at 8 weeks or doubling his weight at 12 weeks came close to 11#. He is not fat in the least! He is very well muscled and a fine shaped Yorkie. I know that if his size was right for a 7# Yorkie and his ears stood and his coat would grow long, he would win championship after championship. He has a straight topline and his teeth are perfect. He has the right size muzzle for the size of his head, he holds his tail up with pride constantly. His feet and knees and hips are straight. He is a gorgeous dog, just not your standard Yorkie. Sylvia |

Thanks Sylvia thanks Sylvia. they are 8 weeks old now. no i am not keeping them even though i am strongly attached to each one. i guess the fun part is starting their new lives getting them ready for their new families. but we get so darn attached to them i will cry my heart out when they go. esp. Pistachio he is the baby with no fear. Isadora is the "gator mouth" we call her, she for sure has no fear.
