Litter Box Training Does anyone have any advice on the use of doggie litter boxes? I've had Ziggy 3 months and he refuses to use the pads or go outside. I am sure some of it is that I have to travel a lot and he's not had a lot of consistency, but my niece takes him out 3 times a day. . . won't go. I love my little doggie, but I am at my wits end!! |
it takes time and patience. Time and Patience. Time and Patience :) Specially if you travel and stuff. If you want to use a littler box, you have to take him there a while after he eats so he can go there. He may not go there for sometime, but an exercise you have to do. You have to keep an eye on him at all time, and if you see that he's trying to go somewhere else taking him fast to the box, even if he has gone in the wrong place already, say no, and take him to the box and say "here". If you can't be paying attention at what he's doing at a given time, put him on a crate, so he won't go anywhere in the house. Remember, it will take time. And 3 month is very young... usually yorkies take time to train... some may be trained at 5 months, while other may take almost a year. |
oh WOW three months you may be asking a lot.. We took about six months( so she was 9 months old) and we did crate train. We got her in the winter so we didn't move her to the outside until late spring when it got warmer. If you crate train you have to put her to the pads or outside first thing. Then watch carefully... I found having her with me at all times worked best, so being you travel expect it to take longer... They are smart dogs and it will come. Be consistent and calm and they will do whatever you ask of them and they LOVE praise.. |
Litter Box Training Thanks for the advice. I am out of town, of course. Ziggy is 6 months old, I've had him for 3 months. |
