Moved & Now Pottying has "regressed" My two year old Abbie has regressed back to "puppyhood" since we moved to a new house. She goes pee somewhere, but I am not sure where (the carpet is a color that hides it). I think its under the dining room table :( ... she was going on pads at our old house, or outside. Now in this house she's of the "wherever I want" mindset. She'll go on her pads sometimes, and outside when on walks...or I take her out and she does nothing outside, and then goes someplace in the house. What to do? I don't want to start penning her up inside. :( She's hard to watch because she's very quick and I don't know when she goes off somewhere. I placed a pad now where I think she's been going, but I don't want her to think going under the dining room table is where she should go from now on. Lol. |
Well, now this morning she pottied on her pads overnight. So perhaps I spoke too soon (or she was looking over my shoulder when I typed the intial post. :rolleyes:...) |

She smells the scent...even though you don't and thinks it's okay. I would call a professional carpet cleaner...and specifically have them clean for pet odors. I'd also babygate a few rooms off so she doesn't have run of the house until you can trust her again. On the spots where you know she's gone...pour nature's miracle there. It eliminates the smell. Your post reminds me of a friend who moved and her dalamation started going inside. She calls the vet...who informed her...the dog didn't understand they had moved, this was their new home...and that she should have "a talk" with him and explain it. So the next day...I asked if she and Preston had had...the talk....she told me yeah, I told him...this was my new house and if he didn't stop peeing in it...he would be moving. :) |

How funny!!! But this is a serious issue! I read somewhere that everytime you move you may have to train your dog to show them where its okay to go. They have no idea and think its okay. I would crate her when she goes where she's not suppose to. That is the only way she'll know she's doing something wrong. I also like the other person's idea of closing off part of the house so you can keep a closer eye on her. Lastly, when you take her outside don't come back in until she goes and when she does praise her or give her one of her favorite treats! This is my plan of what I would do when we buy our house, which will be within the next year. The question is will it work;) Good luck to you and keep us updated;) |
Yeah, I agree that your baby is just confused...especially since she uses pee pads, she's been trained to GO in the house, so it may take a little extra effort. I agree with Bchgirl that you need to confine her when you don't have her right in sight. |
