Finally Potty Trained I just wanted to thank you all on this website for the potty training advice. My 11 month old yorkie is officially potty trained. It’s been 2-3 months since an accident. She sleeps next to my bed and I can leave her out while I'm at work. I still keep her crate downstairs and she goes inside for naps and when she's sick of us. I leave her water out all day and her food and she eats/drinks at her leisure. Thanks for all your tips; I really thought this day would never happen. It took a lot of patience. :):):):):) |
You're a Lucky Girl Congrats! I'm having my daughter who's off from school work hard on the issue. She wants a new digital camera. She walks the two dogs twice a day everyday. They love being outside together. My 14 yr old dog goes potty alot, and Aiden is always with him,so Caitlyn swears that he's doing the training. LOL. Whatever it takes!!! |

Please share your advice with those of us still struggling with potty training. What did or did not work for you?? Please help the rest of us... |
No kidding. To see what I have posted about my puppy Jack, see "Those who live in Apts" second page. I need some help. I love my Yorkie but I am just running out of websites and books with ideas. |
Did you crate train your Yorkie? What was the secret to your success? |
Sorry Been On Vacation I work full time and my husband was not supporting the potty pad idea so I crate Trained!! I got my pup about 4 months and she was already comfortable with the crate idea. however, she would pee and poop in her crate. This occurred for about a month, I was so frustrated. So I placed a dog bed in her crate, she couldnt move around too much. She learned instantly to hold it or lay in it. The next step was teaching her my carpet was an extended crate. I always watched her, if she bent down to pee I would freak out screaming NO. Take her outside and praise her if she went. I also say "Go Potty" when she pees outside. Now she goes on command. I followed the below schedule. 7am outside (food and Water) 8am outside - back to crate - I leave for work 5pm outside (food and water) 7pm Outside - (water) 9pm Outside - (water) 11pm Outside We had many frustrating days and setbacks but eventually it clicked in her head that if I dont pee on the carpet - mommy wont freak out. Slowly she earned her freedom and she roams around the house now. She will whine if she needs to go out. At this point, we dont have a schedule - her food and water are out all day. I just make sure is taken out when I get out of bed in morning and before bed. What worked for me is - crate, schedule, and patience/prayer. Good Luck and be patient. Also, dont be scared to show your dog who's the boss. Pixie is 11 months now, it took about 4 months to completely train my dog. |
Thanks for the schedule and for the idea of putting the bed in the crate. He likes his bed and won't want to poop on it. I'll try it tonight! |
Oh I can't wait for this day!!! |
So ... how did you do it? I need a plan. :) ... we've just received our Yorkie (19 weeks old) and after a mere 3 nights of 2am pooping, I'm pooped and longing for the day where he's fully potty trained. I really need to work on my patience. |
Bed in crate helps We started putting a tiny bed in the crate and leaving a night light on during the night. Since we started this - Buster has not been pooping in his crate during the night! |
