He won't go potty outside! We just brought Rowdy home yesterday and I am SO impressed with his potty pad training, but he won't go to the bathroom outside. He hasn't missed the potty pad once!!!..and he went on it three times last night (I have him in a playpen with his kennel in there)! I was so proud of him since it was his first night home and he's only 9 weeks! BUT we've tried taking him outside every hour and right after he eats or drinks a lot, but he won't go. When I bring him back in he'll go on the potty pad within five minutes. I know this is probably because he's always went on potty pads at the breeder's, but how can I teach him to go outside? |
I am very new to this, but one thought that came to mind was...what if you bring the pad outside? Maybe he will go on it outside, and then that will help him get used to the idea of going outside. If it works, then after a while, you can remove the pads. Good luck! |
that's what i was thinking too! Don't they make a spray attractant that's the same stuff that's in the potty pads? Could i spray that on the grass? |
Yes, I used the spray to get Lexi to go where I wanted her to go. When I went to my in-law's house, I brought the spray there, and she went right where I wanted her to go. |
I tried bringing the potty pads out and have also tried using the spray, but it never worked. So I just continued to walk her for another month or so and eventually I believe she caught the scent from another dog and sure enough she went potty outside. Now if I can only teach her to do number 2 outside as well. |
My yorkie uses potty pads also. She hardly never misses the pads at home. I cant really get her to go outside. I put the pads in my basement so she can go down there and she does. We go down there often and check them and she is very good about it. |
