housebreaking a teacup I have an adorable 3# little girl that is my special girl, although I have four yorkies. She's my sweetest, but I cannot get her totally housetrained. We started out indoor training and have taken her out on good days. She is now 16 months old and will play outside all day and hold it till she comes in and pee on her paper if it's down or the floor if her paper is not down. I am so frustrated I could scream....I love her dearly, but have heard that you can not totally housebreak a teacup yorkie. Is this true...does anyone have any advice? PLEASE!! I know we probably messed up in the beginning, but I really want her to go outside to wee and poo and not on paper anymore. I was just trying to be protective of her when she was young cause she was soooo small when we got her:( |

No matter the weight a Yorkie can be 100 % potty trained . I never saw one that it was impossible to train . I had a 12 years old one and I trained him . All it takes is patience , patience and patience . Always keep the " paper " down for her so she'll know its for her to go on , don't move it , you'll confuse her . |
Try taking a pad outside for her. Leave one down in the house too. You can teach a Yorkie to pee on command too. It takes patience and consistency. Your little Yourkie is also small. Not a teacup... There is no such thing as that. typicaly the term is used because a seller will jack up the price on a little Yorkie. Unfair, but true. :aimeeyork |
I have a wee yorkie as well that can be outside for long periods of time with us and it never fails as soon as we come in she always pees in the floor. I agree that it is very frustrating. I am at a loss as to what to do to stop it also. What I dont get is that she only pees indoors she will always ask to go outside to poo. Im following this thread closely to see what suggestions everyone has for you. Good luck |
You have gotten great advice. So I would like to.....:) WELCOME you to YT!!!! :) :) We are only 20 minutes or so away from each other! :) |
welcome to YT...you have already been given good advice...ehhe |
You need to be consistent with her and also realize that even though she is small that doesn't mean to cut her any breaks. I own a 3lb dog and rain or shine like any sized dog she goes outside. I know they are smaller..that just means you put a sweater on them or a rain coat. That is what I do. Also if you want her to go outside only then the paper has to go. |
I love these posts because training stubborn Yorkies is what I do for a living! Don't fret because I know how difficult it is to train a Yorkie, but it is not impossible. I have helped write a yorkie house-breaking guide located at the website in my signature, and it is a very extensive and helpful guide for getting your Yorkie potty trained. I would type out the whole house-breaking chapter here for you but I really don't have that much time! haha. Patience really is the key to training Yorkies and with a bit of consistent diligence you will begin to see results. I wish you the best of luck though! |
Thank you everyone for all the great advice. Lulu actually went potty outside this morning for the ...umm second time ever! I guess it's a start. Thanks again! |
