He hates the LEASH I just got my Jaxon today (9 weeks)... I am trying to make sure he is peeing outside and he HATES the leash.... He reminds me of a cat when you try to put them on the leash. He just sites there an dyou have to drag him! Is this because he is not used to it or is there something I can do? :confused: |
I was just going to post a similar threas. I am going going trough the same thing only Sasha is 14 weeks. I admit, I just started trying to get her used to the leash because she was was sick for while and I knew it was going to be a while before I could take her out. Well now it's time and like your Jaxon, she will lay flat on her belly and won't budge. OR, she will turn around and bite the leash. At first I thought it was something they just had to get used to, but my friend never had a problem with her yorkie being on a leash. |
If you put the leash on him indoors and let him drag it around for a while. Then just hold it and follow him holding it, he'll soon get used to it. My little girl hadn't had a leash on at four months, and this way it was very easy. Good luck my friend. Hugs Shirl x x |
They all hate the least in the beginning but after draging it around and playing with it they learn it isn't that bad. |
Just make sure you are supervising when the dog is dragging around the leash! The puppies do get the hang of it, but it takes some time! |
I started walking him on the leash in the house and he does MUCH better outside... MUCH MUCH MUCH better. He still stops randomly and looks at me with those sad puppy dog eyes but he keeps on walking. Now i just have to get him walking and POOPING outside instead of right when he gets back inthe house on the carpet. :( |
You can always try putting on his leash and sitting down a couple feet in front of him and tempt him with a treat. This worked with kota, and it was a good start for teaching "come". Good luck! |
Leashing My yorkie HATED the leash. :mad: He would refuse to go to the bathroom while on one. He made you miserable if I would chain him out or even walk him. He'd pull so hard he'd start making this strange choking sound. I tried all kinds of things,but I ended up letting him go potty loose in my yard (with supervision of course). Honestly, even two months ago, I had him on a leash on vacation and he held his waste for almost a day! My point, not to be a downer, but I wish I never had given in. He took off and was killed almost two weeks ago. :( So no matter what you do, DO NOT LET HIM LOOSE! No matter how safe you are. A little tough love and more work may have made all the difference in my case. I just dont want to see anyone make the same mistake. :aimeeyork I wish you the absolute best on teaching your little guy. My new one is being a pain, but I wont give in this time. |

I've had a neck collar on Lil Bit ever since I got him (early March) and haven't had any trouble at all. He also walks on a leash just fine (he was over a year old when I got him and I don't know his background). He only goes outside to potty--we don't have a fenced in yard so he is never loose, and I only walk him occassionally. Should he have a harness instead of a collar?? :confused: I prefer to keep something on him at all times--is this a bad idea? I have wondered if the collar is affecting the growth of fur on his neck area... And I also am sorry about the puppy that got killed. It's bad enough to let them go when they're aged and/or sick! |

Daisy hated it too, I gave in and got the retractable leash. I still didnt like it b/c it worried me, but then i found one that has a lead on it so the wire can't hurt her. Its about a 3 ft soft lead so thats all that touches her. I also use a harness. I was AMAZED at the difference, she loves going for walks now. Also, keep the leash short next to you , dont give her slack right away, this will help her stay up with you and not allow her to stop short in her tracks. ;) |
