Won't stop biting! My yorkie is 4 months old... I know he is teething and likes to chew on toys, but that is not what I am concerned about. Every time I try to pet him or pick him up he tries to chew on my fingers.... Not in a mean way, just like the puppy chew way,, not aggressively. I dont want it to lead to aggressive behavior though! Does he grow out of that? I cant even let other people try to pet him cause he just gets too excited and jumps on them and tries to chew their fingers and stuff too. Any ideas? a firm "no" doesnt work... he doesnt understand... Is this normal and will he grow out of this stage? Thanks!! |

good book i have been reading is.... let the dog decide... and cesar milans books.. its easier to raise 2 puppies together of the same age... they chew on each other... yorkies are chewers and diggers.. you just need another yorkie...give him lots of love, and dont rub his belly.. belly rubs lead to aggression...in some dogs...just pet him everywhere else:aimeeyork |
My girl did the same thing when she was young. I kept putting a certain nubby ball in front of her in place of my fingers, she finally got the hint that it was ok to chew the ball & not my hands. It took alittle time, but she got it! She does still like to chew her daddy's fingers though. :aimeeyork :) |
Max does the same.. He has 2 balls and several other chew toys to play with already.. Yesterday I caught him trying to eat the corner wall.. D*amn this little guy..He is all over the place driving my wife nuts.. hehehe.. :animal36 When I scold him he just look up on me, smiles and runs off.. |

I think all breeds do it. I have 4 dogs and all of them were chewers. Continue to substitute your hand for something he/she is allowed to chew. Give your baby a wash cloth. My yorkie mix loves any type of cloth. |
Yes this is normal and most will grow out of it, it's normal puppy behavior though. Have you tried putting the pup down when he or she starts to do this and just refuse to play with them for a few? Have you tried a whistle? I went out and got a whistle and kept it around my neck cause Maggy May used to LOVE to bite my ankles. When she'd do it, I'd blow the whistle lord and fast and it'd startle her and she's stop. It may be worth a shot for you. It only took me a few days to teach Maggy May not to bite my ankles using the whistle. Good luck to you. |
I Agree With These Ladies. I Have The Same Problem With Mine. He Chews My Fingers All The Time, But When I Use A Toy In Its Place He's Nice. Its A Puppy Thing. Good Luck! Judie |
