Pee on command I was shocked today when my girlfriend showed me that she had taught our three month old Bam-Bam to pee on command while hes on his pee pad! Has anyone else had experience with this? I was literally amazed...if i can get my hands on a video camera I'll try to record this so I can post it firsthand. |
Yes, my boy's do this, I started young also otherwise i will be out there hour's with them just walking around. It is pretty kool ! |
Now that's a cool trick! |
:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:awesome! |
oooo that sounds like a cool trick... I wanna teach my puppy that!! How do you do it??? |
OMG! That is sooo cool!!!! How did you teach him that???? I WOULD LOVE to learn my four and half baby still doens't understand, she is soooo stuborn!!!! |
My Stella does that too, I just stand her on it and tell her to pee-pee Stella:) |

hehe this is a great command right...its part of housebreaking...when i take my puppies to the peepad or the grass i will tell them to go potty in vietnamese...and after they do so i praise them...hehe... |
Sebastian goes potty outside, but he also pees on command. It took some time, but I just took him outside where I wanted him to go and said "go potty". When he actually did I would praise him like crazy! I started right when I got him (at about 10 weeks), and he still pees on command for me. It is a very handy "trick". |

Yup, I teach all our pups this--especially helpful when on road trips or visiting friends. |
My pup can pee on command, now if only I could teach her to poop on command... |
My dogs do this too! It is helpful with house breaking. When we go outside I tell them to go "potty" and "good potty". And they made the connection fast. When my husband takes Paisley out he will be out there forever and come in and say she didn't do anything. I ask him "did you tell her to go potty'? His answer, no. He takes her back out and tells her to go "potty" and is back within minutes. He teases me that the dogs need me to sing them the potty song before they will take care of business. |
Pee on command........... I have been trying this for a month now with my lil man and he just doesn't get it. I take him to the pads and say go potty and he just walks around for a few seconds and then walks off. Once in a while he will go potty and I praise him and give him a treat but he is not consistant with it. Any advice would we greatly appreciated. I have been trying litter and pads, just don't like the outside. Took him just now and he went off the pad and cocked his leg on my washing machine!! What is up with that??? |
Tucker never caught on, but all you really have to do is take them outside and say "go potty" or whatever over and over and when they actually go, throw a freakin' parade. :D I know that most service dogs are trained to do this. |
I have never tried this "trick" with any mine, but next puppy I get, you can bet I will!! I wish that I had done it with my German Shepherd, there would be a lot less for the poop patrol!! |
My Aidan does this too! The other 4...(sigh) no such luck (but I haven't lost hope!) :D :D |
Not the Yorkies, but Boo the Boxer will "tinkle-dinkle" and "go poopsie" on command. It is a very hand thing to teach your dogs, especially house dogs that go potty outside. |
is 13 weeks too old? i mean choco poos outside... and he knows to only do his business outside... but i only praise him after he does it and i do not give commands... do you think he can still learn it? and as for the pee.... it is really really hard... how do you do it? he does not do anything when i put him on the pee pee pad and say pee... he does go to the pee pad and do it there sometimes and then i would praise him, but other times he would just pee elsewhere and i would punish him.... any advice? |
they are never too old imo...hehe |
so how do you teach them?? if you give commands, they wouldnt know what you are saying..... |
KiKi does it too....taught her right away...and just kept at it..... |
When I first brought Bandit home we had a play pen for him and we showed him everything so he would learn what it is....we had a pee pad inside and we used the housebreaking aid from "Petland" that we spray on the pee pad. I sat him on it and said "go potty Bandit" and when he did I said "good boy" over and over and gave him a treat the second he was done....I was told that if you dont give them the treat or say "good boy/girl" within a few seconds they dont know what they are being praised for....at that young their minds arent fully developed yet so they forget. It didnt take long for Bandit to catch on because I put him on the pee pad about once ever 45 minutes for the first few days and he just started doing it on his own and we still gave him treats for doing it but now we just praise him and sometimes give him treats....when we say "Good boy" he comes running at me and DH full force and licks us all over our faces. Hope this helped some who are trying to teach their dogs. Oh and Bandit was 9 weeks when we got him. He uses the pee pads wherever they are now....as long as we show him where they are if we are in an unfarmiliar place we use the spray so he can find it. |
What Im doing right now is when she actually is going I will say "go potty" then praise her. I wait until midstream to tell her so she associates the word with it. Later on, I should be able to tell her before so she knows what I want her to do. She is starting to catch on. She has the pooping down pat. She barks at my feet when she has to poop and I take her out. But going pee is a little slower. She may still have pee accidents, but will still go pee when I take her outside. |
That would be handy like before going to the vet. Usually we stay on vet clinic for hours. |
Itsy pees on command, if she has to go. When I have her out running around the house I periodically take her to her potty pad and tell her "potty" and she will go, if she has to. If she doesn't, she will just sit down and stare up at me like, "but I don't neeeed to go!" Teaching it is pretty easy, just whenever they pee or poo on the pad say the word "potty" while they're going, and when they're done give tons of praise and treats. It doesnt take long for them to make the connection, if you're consistent. |
Borrow Would your girlfriend like to visit Oklahoma for a while? |
