How do I get my puppy to stop chasing the poor CAT?! Our 15 week old puppy LOVES our 17 yr old cat, whose has been pretty good with her so far, I must say (I'm not sure if she wants to play with her or eat her, but considering the cat is more than double the dog's weight, it's kind of funny!). The two of them will sleep, touching on our bed, but if the cat moves suddenly, the dog will bark/chase. If the dog is in the house somewhere and spots the cat, she'll chase her - the cat runs, the dog barks, the cat hisses and the dog thinks it's all a very fun game! I've tried distracting and even scolding, but it seems that the poor cat is just too tempting a target! Can someone tell me some successful dog/cat relationships, and how you fostered this?? well before my 1 cat died:( he would wait till the pups were sleeping walk up behind them and swat their butts LMAO they didn't get along well.However our other cat is pretty dossile but mine do the same they bark when he runs or anything. Peeka stays away from him but Daisy thinks he is her slave and will pin him down to hump him :eek::eek::eek: he gets into spats with her but not too bad Peeka will jump in to defend Daisy though lol. I just think there will always be a little tension and fun but should be safe if you keep an eye on them:) |
Ours is nearly seven, and she still hasn't stopped.:D However, the cat seems to get more exercise now.:rolleyes: |
If you could, make a place where your kitty can get up higher then the dog. This will allow your cat to be safe and have the upper hand :aimeeyork |
Penny does the same thing. She never stops. That's what tires her out!:D |
My daughter moved back in with her 2 dogs. My fluffs chase and torment the female younger less aggressive cat and barks and sniffs the older more dominate male cat. I have seen them eat together the fluffs and the female but they respect that male cat after being swatted a few times. :D |
My 4 cats are the brunt of my 2 Yorkies antics. When they tire of it, the cats get "up" and away or hide out. You might try gating your pup in one room or on one level of your house, with an escape route for the cat, so the cat can have run of the rest of the house and get away from the pup when she/he needs to. My 16 y.o. cat pretty much ignores the two dogs, no matter how much they bark and chase. |
