Chewing and Pooping.. what a life ? I have a 5 1/2 month old yorkie and weve been trying to train him since feb. it is not working, for a few days he will do really good then he will mess up and its so frustrating we are pad training him. he will pee on the pad but he doesnt like to poop there?? and to make matters worse this morning when my husband and i woke up i heard bruce scratching on something and i looked and he had chewed and scratched up the wall like the size of a dollar bill long and all the way down to the chalky part of the sheet rock?? OMG i was so upset i try not to let him see me getting angry so i put him in his cage... i have ran out of ideas for training him!! any help will b much appreciated :) ~*stephen, whitney and bruce*~ |
Do you just leave one pad out? My baby is good with hers but I know a lot of yorkies are picky and don't like peeing and pooping in the same spot! If you have just one pad out, maybe try putting out another one to see if he might go there. If you see signs of him about to poop (sniffing and walking in circles, or even just about to squat) and take him to the pad immediately. Keep him there until he has no other choice but to poop on it! And when he does, praise and praise and praise and treat :) It might take awhile but he should eventually get it! As for the walls, have you tried any sort of spray on it? I used bitter apple when Layla was going through her chewing stage, but it didn't phase her at all. What worked for me was clear deodorant. She also chewed on the walls, and on the wooden handles of my desk, and the wooden coffee table legs, and basically anything she could put her teeth on. But she got a taste of the deodorant once and wouldn't go near anything that smelled like it anymore! Since it's clear it doesn't really show up on walls or furniture. If you have just a few problem areas I'd suggest trying that! Good luck! |

Where is your little one sleeping at night? Winston sleeps in his crate beside our bed. We don't trust him yet to be out and about wondering around while we sleep. I know he would get bored and probably wreck a few things. I would suggest not letting your little one wonder without you guys fully watching him/her. If your watching them and they do something bad that at least you can say no and they'll understand as you caught them in the act. |
Chewing OMG, I just joined this site...I need answers on this too. My 3 month old yorkie likes to tear stuff up and chew things up. I just got home today and she had torn the fake tile/linolium up off the bathroom floor. It was about a 3 inch long spot. She has also chewed up Xmas lights and other things...I've been so frusterated the past few days. It's when I leave her alone at home. Any ideas for keeping her out of trouble while I'm gone? |
We Use An Xpen For Brooklyn. When We Are Not At Home She Is Put In There With Her Bed, Toys, Water, And Two Potty Pads. At Least We Know She Is Safe And There Is Nothing For Her To Destroy. It Works For Us. And At Night When We Are Sleeping She And Oliver Each Have A Kennel To Sleep In. It Is Their Nightime Bed. |
chewing Yeah, I have one of those large pens that you put out in the yard usually. I have it in the bathroom. Yesterday she acually got out and loose. Some how she pulled the bathroom mat through the fencing and got out underneath I think. She's a freaking Houdini! I leave water and SEVERAL toys. Sometimes a towel to lay on. I let her do her business freely in there, since she tries to chew up the pee pads. I don't want shredded mess in my apartment. |
It took about a year for our Harlee to completely get it!!! She is now 6 and will hold it til we take her our...She gives one teeny weeny woof and that's her signal...And as a well-trained mommy, I take her out...(Even if it's the middle of the night)...Now, our other 2 are hit and miss...I have 3 wee wee pads in the special places they like to go...Great praises and a special treat only for going outside is given....Never punish them and put them in their crate...It's not supposed to be a bad place...It's their comfort zone...You should take them out or to the wee wee pad every 2 hours, I heard, if you can...If not, the xpen is second best with a pad...I also have washable large pads, like a diaper with a plastic bottom....I got them from my daughter so I couldn't tell you where to get them....They are heavy and good... |
