I decided not to teach Joey to speak because once they are rewarded for barking, you will increase that behavior even when you are not asking for it. To teach a dog to bark you simply wait till he barks and say YESSSSS and give a treat. Then just look at him, he'll bark. Joey will start barking if I say the word "doggies" as in "Look at the doggies," but I never have given him a treat for this.

To teach a dog to stay, first you teach him to sit. After he is sitting. Put your hand out palm facing him and say "Stay" count to 5 or 10 seconds and give him a "release" command like "OK" and put you hand down. Give him reward. You can also slowly back up. You should gradually increase the time. If he moves before the time is up, you say "Uh-uh" or something similar, don't use the word "No" they hear that word too much, and it's probably associated with something bad. All you are trying to do is to teach him that that is not the behavior for the reward. Say "sit" again, put your palm forward and say "stay". Repeat. I found snapping my fingers when I say, "sit" really works well.


Sit and Lay are the two most important tricks to teach, they could save your dogs life.

8. Give me your paw, then the other
9. One, two three up, goes up on hind legs and begs
10. Find It. New, finds anything you hide in the house.
These little ones just love doing these things and are like
sponges wanting to learn.
We are going to work on speak.
