Losing patience? Read this..... Hi all. We have a nine year old and we just got a 6 1/2 week old puppy. The puppy is wild, biting everyone, running around, and then collapses and goes to sleep. Well...I forgot that's what they all do when they are puppies. My 9 yr old is very well mannered, kind and considerate, etc. Well, nine years ago, I guess she was as wild as our new puppy. I called my daughter today and asked her how our girls were when they were puppies, and she reminded me that they were just as wild and crazy as our new one. I put her on speaker so my husband could hear.....we couldn't believe it. She said it's the same with kids, you forget all the wild and bratty stuff they did. So...now I feel lots better and will have more patience and understanding when she bites me...hehe....I will get lots more chew toys...she has about 20 scattered around the house, but I will get more so they are always in reach. I WILL remember that they will grow out of this....it's just a stage and they are teething to boot. Just thought I'd share this with you.;) |
Oh my Iam laughing as it is soooo true , we do forget how naughty they were as puppies...and how much work.....but they are soooo worth it.:animal36 |
Yep... that's what pups do.... And especially at that age. You've got a few more months of that my dear :) Considering its only a form of play for them, you cant be mad :p When Meka use to bite too hard, I would say "too hard" or something to that effect and she would soften her bite... if it continued, I'd make a fist and she would stop... Its easier to bite on fingers than a fist... Congrats on the new pup :D |
Yes, it's both a delightful, and frustrating age! Their gums are itchy and hurting, so it's natural to bite to hurry along the process of getting the teeth in! When the pup bites too hard, try making a little yelping sound, and withdraw. This, they understand, is an unpleasant sound that signals pain. Like when playing with litter mates. |
Can't blame you for forgetting..honestly my furbaby is only 2 years old and I have already forgotten the wild puppy stage.:D |
