Briefly Frustrated......help! Okay! We live in an apartment and every time we take Coby out to potty he is on his leash. He used to sit by the door when someone would knock and run out and run down the steps and out into the apartment yard. Then when we would run after him he toys with us and runs around and around making it hard to catch him. So he has gone a while without doing this. Whenever the door would open he would go out but when we would call him, he would turn around and run right back in the house.....well not today! He ran out of the apartment and ran into the apartment yard and he kept running round and round and finally I caught him. Any suggestions on how to tame his hard-headed behavior? |
I just KNEW this new Coby was going to cause trouble!!! :D I think that's the toughest one for all of us! My Coby just doesn't get to be off leash outside. Sad, I know. All I can suggest is to never stop practicing the "come" command. We always, always, always give a treat for coming (assuming that you do train with treats, of course). And one thing that I learned from someone is to not only make sure the come to you, but also make sure they let you touch their harness before the treat. That will make sure they don't learn to just come and then dash away before you can grab 'em. That being said, there are very few lucky people that have one that is 100% trustworthy. And don't forget that in a crisis, running AWAY and back to safety yourself will usually get them to run after you. They don't want to miss anything cool you might be planning. |
