blanket or not in his crate? We are trying to crate train our guy. should we have a comfy pillow in there for night and for when we are not home or just paper in it? i don't want him to pee on his pillow, but he cries everytime we put him in the crate, like crazy! |
we have nice comfy fluffy bed and a toy and a blankie in our girls crates..they love their crates! |
I've had my Yorkie pup for just 2-1/2 weeks now. The first three nights he cried in his crate. On the third night I thought I was going to give in and let him out and into my bed - but somehow I held my resolve only by thinking if I let him out, then I've failed in crate training. So I did not let him out that night (the worst of the three nights) and only got maybe 1 hour of sleep. They say it's darkest before the dawn... and it was. Since then he has NOT cried in his crate for more than 1 minute and very quietly. I simply ignore any whining when we go to bed. I say "good night Mac" and that's it for the night. I read my book for about 1/2 hour and then it's lights out. I do leave him with a blanket and a kong. I don't trust any other toy in there with him while I'm at work. Best wishes with your Yorkie - do keep us posted. |
I would give him something soft to lay on. |
I think you should definitely put a blanket in his crate. It'll be more comfortable for him & it'll deter him from peeing or pooping in there. Amy |
My advice is to make it as comfy as possible. You want it to feel like a den, not a potty place. That being said, if you are just starting out training, put something that's easily washable in there. If there are accidents, you don't want to be stressed out about them, so make clean up as easy as possible. When Coby was tiny, he did poop and pee in his crate at night (didn't cry to get out unfortunately) for the first few weeks. We had a crate that was easy to pop open, clean out, and we just threw the blankee's in the wash. Good Luck!! |
We had a comfy bed and blankets in ours. I've found that if you cover the bottom of the crate with blankets, there is less chance of them peeing in it. They don't like to go where they sleep. |
Here... Ben has his bed, a blankie and a toy...Tia has her bed, blankie and her little Snugga Wubba.....Barney has a cotton blankie.....There is padding under all their bedding for softness.... |
We brought Wrigley home at 12 weeks and we started her sleeping in a crate from day one! We put a baby blanket in there and a tiny stuffed animal, that she used for a pillow! She loves her bed and she's almost 2 now! She has now been upgraded to a pink furry crate pad with matching bumper pad from Sonja at Pocomutt! |
I had a bed with a blanket and the pee pad at the other end and it worked out great. You want them to like their crate. |
I put a nice soft blanket and a stuffed animal in our crates. |
It took a little while to crate train our two girls, but it really pays off in the long run. How old is he? When they are very young they can't hold it very long. So accidents do happen, my sister bought some very soft plushy blankets at Walmart, they wash up really well. In the girls' crate they have two plushy blankets (one is really big and we fold it several times and it rests in the bottom), and I use the second one to cover them, it is much smaller. They also have one chew toy( a kong is best when they are puppies ). Oh and a nice fluffy stuffed animal that they use as a pillow. ~Marly |
he actually is in a cage, not a crate. It is 2 feet by 3 feet. We have the divider in now. He does not go in his crate when we sleep which is 7 hours! But when we are gone at work today he went one time. He also cries EVERY SINGLE TIME he is in his cage except for sleeping. |
