will washable pee pads cause confusion?? okay, so i really really like the idea of the decorative washable pee pads (by little bit or lazydaisy) because they are more visually appealing to the eye... however, i keep putting off buying any because i'm afraid Kash will get confused and think it's okay to pee on ANYTHING that is decorative. like my blankets, for example. i mean, if the washable pee pads are soft, pretty-looking fabrics (like a fabric that someone would use to make clothing or blankets, etc), then what's to stop Kash from mistaking the blankets on my bed or a shirt left on the floor for a pee pad? i'm so nervous that he will start peeing on anything resembling a pretty pee pad! lol. |

It is not the look of the pad, but rather the smell of the pad (with their urine, etc.) and the location of the pad. If you are consistently putting their pee pad in the same place that they are used to going you shouldnt have a problem. Of course all dogs are individuals, but that is what I have found. |
I can't say if washable pee pads will cause confusion with your pup or not, I can say that I started using my washable pee pads after my Molly had her 7 pups. With the paper ones the puppies would drag them, shred them, and pee on the blue edges which then would run off and under the pad. I started training them with the pads very early on and found that when the 7 pups had to potty 9 times out of 10 they would run to the pads! I also found the washable pads to cost me a lot less in the long run. Now I have 5 dogs, 2 of which are still puppies, and they are the ones who will still use the pads. I have bamboo flooring in my house and do not want the pups to potty on it so I put the pads down at night and when I'm not home for any length of time. The rest of the time the pups are let outside on a regular basis with the rest of my pets and they head straight for the grass to potty. |
It does mine, I have to keep the carpet /bath mats up. |

No, I don't think this will confuse them, I agree it's the smell. If they pee, on something that you don't want them to pee on, be sure and use and enzyme cleaner like Nature's Miracle or Simple Solutions to prevent them from returning. However, never use an enzyme cleaner on washable pee pads, just regular detergent, no bleach and no fabric softener, as this lessens a fabric's absorbency. That would be funny if they could tell us which prints they thought were pretty. :D |
