Excessive Barking!! My sister has a new puppy and he barks constantly. I didn't realize how much of a big deal it was until I was there baby-sitting for an afternoon. Everytime I had my nephew almost asleep Jake would start barking. Sometimes he barks because he sees someone walking in the street (they leave the front door open a lot) but a lot of the time he barks at NOTHING!! My sister has a 7 year old, 2 year old and is 8 months pregnant. She has no idea what to do?? I've never had this problem so I don't know what to tell her. ANY SUGGESTIONS??? Thanks! :) |
Good luck with this!! I wish i knew!! When my 4 get going...it sounds like a kennel in here! I have a metal can with pennies in there that i shake when they bark...it used to work great but now they just ignore that too! |
You could try getting two pots&banging them together ... I've read that they hate that. Then again, it doesn't work for Bear D: Or you could try squirting him in the face with water. My Chi&my cat really hate it when I do this to them, but again, it has no effect whatsoever on Bear, lol. Good luck! -Amy |

You can also teach the pup no bark/be quiet command. |
I use the water bottle--and I keep it in the fridge---keeping it cold is the trick--make sure you have it set on stream--I can spray from a ways away--works great. |
New barking trend! Mine was quiet as a doll and now has suddenly started to get aggressive when he sees people -- he was so friendly before and now everytime he sees someone coming close he starts barking! mostly at night! he even barks against his own shadow! I try to startle him with strong sounds but to no avail... How do you train the quiet command? |
For the past couple weeks I've been using the spray bottle method on my little barker! When I spray it I also tell her "quiet" at the same time. She still barks, but not nearly as often or as loud. Just going for the bottle stops her in her tracks! I plan on continuing it, believing consistancy is the key. I even take it outside when she decides to bark at people walking by or whatever. Over time I hope it will stop almost completely! |
