Potty Training.......Basement When we got Dudley last summer, after a couple of accidents on the living room carpet, he started going pee and poop on his own in the basement. Our basement isn't finished, all concrete, so easy to clean up. We let him since he wasn't going up here on the carpet. He still goes down there and now we are training Miley to go down there and she will pee/poop down there where he goes but she STILL pees/poops up here. She can come UP the steps but she can't go DOWN and that might be why she won't go down on her own. We are hoping she just follows Dudley down there. Hubby said we need to do something to the steps to make them so she WILL go down them and not be scared, but how? Anyone have to do this to stairs? |
How old is she? If she's still a puppy, it may take time for her to adjust to the stairs. It's different for every dog. I kept two puppies (one male and one female) from my last litter and they are 6 months old now. Only one of them will do the stairs, while the other one has been doing it for months now. Are the stairs enclosed? Meaning, on either side of them, is there a wall? If they are open, that could be why she is afraid. |
She is 5 months old. We have baby gates along one side so it is enclosed but the other side is open, hubby is going to block it off with something to make it more enclosed. |
she will get the hang of it, it just takes time. You should be with her when she is going up and down, before you know it she will whip up and down on her own. What are you going to do whe you finish your basement? Isent there a smell from them going potty down there? |

We are with her when she goes down so we make sure she goes potty. We don't plan on finishing the basement, it is FULL of junk LOL. There is a smell but we do clean the floors where they go and Dudley goes in the same spot which helps LOL. |

Have you tried putting a potty pad in the spot he goes? The urine will soak into the concrete and you might never get the smell out. I would definitely use a pad of some kind down there. |
