Please help me with this!!!! Ok, I have a 3 and a half month old yorkie girl. She is SO good...there is not much at all to complain about in terms of dealing with her puppy stage or anything like that..... This is my one issue with her that I can't figure out how to deal with.... Everytime anyone in the house walks up to her to pick her up she runs away just enough so we can't get her. We try again with a happy voice and she still runs away! She is happy and all...she just won't let it happen that way. So, I have to take her treat bag....she comes running....I tell her to sit...she sits...I give her a treat and grab her, lol. I can understand when she does this while she is chewing a bone or toy cause then she may think we are taking it from her....but just for nothing? When it is time to go out for a pee and we have to chase her down!!!!! Help?!?!? |
I wish I had an answer for you, however, my little Yorkie backs away from me too . I hope she does not keep doing this either, however, I do not know .I like your treats idea that is good that it works. :) |
I think you should always have a treat in your hand before you call her the first time. Then she will get in the habit of thinking that you always have something good in store when you call her. Eventually she won't want to shy away if you never give her a reason to. |
In our obedience class were told to train them to come using treats. Do this in a training session, placing her several feet away, call her and show her the treat. When she gets to you give her the treat and tell her "good girl". Repeat this several times in a training session. It might take her a few sessions to get it, but she will. After she will consistently come, you can hold off on the treats. And, give them only occasionally when she comes to you in the future. This way she is never certain if she will get the treat or not, but she'll come just in case she is. Also - always make coming to you a pleasant happy experience. If she hesitates to come, don't scold her. You don't want coming to you to be associated with anything negative. Hope this helps. |
