What is your opinion of dog behaviorist? I am thinking of taking my baby Jack to a dog behaviorist. He is 10 months old and listens well inside but when we got out he ignores me. I have only had Jack a little over a month. He is very vicious to other dogs (big dogs) when we go outside and I am afraid for his safety. He lived in the country and was never socialized with other dogs. I am afraid if we got to a training class like at Petco he would not behave long enough to learn anything. I also have a 10 week old baby girl named Mia. If I can learn from this person I will be better able to teach Mia. This person gives private lessons for $100.00. This is for 6 one hour classes. It is basic obedience training and she said if we have time we can work on other issues too. She told me to write down anything I wanted to work on and bring it to the first class. Here is a link to her website. It is under construction but still gives information. What do you think? Four Perfect Paws Betty |
Hey Betty the site looks great. They are obviously registered and the fact that they acknowledge that you need to be the "pack leader", to me, shows they know what they are talking about. Layla's babysitter's daugther is a dog behaviouralist and follows the same philosophies that were outlined on the site and so i would go for it! |
I have used a professional before in the recent past (not for my Yorkies but for another dog that I adopted) and It helped alot with that dog. I learned alot from my trainer who not only trained the dog but helped me to train the dog. I would reccomend it and it can't hurt. That price isn't bad, I was getting charged 45 dollars a session, she came to my house (which was nice). |
I have arranged to have her babysit for my babies. I am going out of town for 4 days and they will stay with her. She said she can work on socializing Jack while I am gone and work on Mia's potty training. Mia uses puppy pads most of the time. lol She has 2 small dogs inside and that is where Jack and Mia will be staying too. I hate to leave them but the person I am staying with does not have dogs. They would have to stay outside and I could not stand it. She has 7 cats and a peacock so it is best I don't bring them. I am hoping they will get a lot out of this experience. I don't plan on making any other trips without them. |
