Puppy Head Start Class @ PetSmart So I enrolled Deegan in his Puppy Head Start Class today and I go this week, but Deegan doesn't go until the week after. He will be 16 weeks by the time he starts class and I didn't realize that I could have signed him up sooner. I had assumed that they needed all 3 set of shots before they could be with other dogs, but with this puppy class you only have to have the first two sets seeing how all the dogs are to young to get the rabies... it's not needed. But the lady told me that the prime learning stage was between 12-16 weeks. I hope that I didn't not register too late and have Deegan total rebel at what we are going to learn. What do you think? Has anyone ever taken their puppy to class after their 16th week? And how well did they do? Another concern I have is that he is soooo hyper! I mean he is full of piss and vinegar all the time!!! I let him play with my girlfriends ****zu who is three weeks younger than him and he clobbers her - the poor baby girl. So then I have to take him away because he is too rough. Do you think that he will be too hyper and excited to concentrate and learn??? |
Maximus is like this tooo...VERY full of energy and he loves to go over to everyone and everything!!! There is a 6lb chihiuaha and a 60lb. puppy in his class and he jumps right on the 60lb. dog and has tried to play with the chihuaha but he wants nothing to do with him...lol. As far as the shots they make them have all the shots INC. rabies before they will allow them to enroll so Maximus had to wait till about 5 months...the other 2 dogs are around the same age...and Deegan will do GREAT..you'd be amazed what they will do for treats, although Maximus likes to clobber the attention (it got to be a little embarrasing last week)..he gets himself under control after he sees the other dogs behaving!!! Good Luck |
Macy had her first puppy class Monday and she is 18 weeks old- this class is held by a local Kennel Club. There were 10 dogs there all different sizes mostly BIG doggies! We just did walking around- heeling, stay and a few other small things. Well I felt like I was dragging Macy like a mop because I if we didn't move there was a big dog behind us. I think that is what she was affraid of or she wanted to get the big dogs! Either way I wasn't going to stand there! By the end of the hour things were good. But then we tried the groomer last night- she was aweful, nipping and growling at her..... Oh the terrible twos! |
i started puppy head start at 10weeks. now i am enrolling in advanced training and this time i need the rabies form |
LMAO........... sorry, youre post was funny, "he clobbers her" i just got a vision of a yorkie hiding around the corner of the couch with a club waiting for teh girl to come along so he can bop her on the head hyperness and that activity is part of puppyhood, all my dogs have acted this way, he will learn to be more gentle....... when i first got our kitten i thought toby was going to kill it, he kept going a mile a minuit and RUNNING over the poor thing, but he has calmed down nicely.......maybe having other dogs around will put him right my toby does this hyper thing around dogs he knows but then sticks his nub (lol....... thats what we call his itty tail) down and refuses to interact with dogs that he doesnt know for quiet some time |
I didnt put Gucci on Puppy Class. I just wanted to say good luck.I know he will do fine.Keep us posted. |
My Channel will start on classes in Petsmart tomorrow. 8/23/2005. i was told puppy classes were only for pups upto 5 months old or was it 6? hmmm not sure. But mine is 8 months old and they told me since she is so small, they'll let her join. i cant wait. I am excited. Like if it was my first day of school. And she is sooo super hyper. Cant wait to see how she gets and acts. I do know for fact that in my house we have a 7 year old ****zu and she hates it when we give our other dog attention. She jumps on her , lifts her ear and barks in it. Runs and bumps into her with her butt first. lol. funny. But we will see if this helps. I will keep you guys posted on how good these petsmart trainer are. And they also said they will provide **homework** for the both of us. |

Gracie was six months old when we put her in the puppy class at Petsmart. She did great and passed the final test with flying colors, in fact, was the only puppy in the class to complete the test without making any mistakes. YEAH!!! |
