Barking when I leave.... Momiji barks when I leave each morning. :( She will stop barking when I shut the door but she will start barking even before I'm ready to leave. (hence I leave earlier and earlier lately....) She sense that I will be leaving soon and she starts to bark at me. How do I stop her from barking?? I give her a frozen cottage cheese, her favorite treats, piece of chicken, still she chose barking over her food. She will stop as soon as I close the door so I am not too concern but I was wondering if I can correct her. Any suggestion??? |
I believe that giving her favorite treats is rewarding the behavior you do not want. Instead you may want to shake a coffe can full of coins. This worked for me and has stopped any unwanted barking, at the swiffer broom, for instance. Hope you can work something out. |
How old is your baby? I would not give the treats as that is rewarding the behavior. If she is still young, it will get better as she gets used to it and gets comfortable in knowing that you always return. When you leave in the morning do not make a big deal of it, that will just give her more anxiety. Just walk out the door in a normal fashion. If you make it seem as a normal part of your day, she will catch on, especially if she is still a pup. It gets better it really does, hang in their mommy. :):) |
Kana, I think you should get her a brother or sister so she isn't lonely!! :D Of course, I would say that since I have 5!! The more the merrier!! |
I started correcting Max as a puppy. I would say no barking and if he kept it up, I would ignore him. It was hard because he's so cute. If he stopped, I would go down and tell him how wonderful he was or in your case then you could give a treat. |
Ozzy does the same thing. As soon as I put him in his pen and he sees me put on my shoes he startes barking and jumping up the pen. I just ignore him or tell him no bark and quickly leave. I don't look at him or anything. I try to be really calm. Monday he actually just laid on his bed and didn't bark so I was so happy thinking we turned a corner but today he barked again. He's almost 6 months now but I think he is learning it's ok when I leave. It just takes time :) |
Have you told her "NO" barking? If your not correcting the bad behavior when she does it, then she will continue. She will also continue if you keep rewarding her for that behavior. There's no reason she should be getting a treat after doing something wrong... I know its hard, but you have to be firm... Hope this helps :) |
hahaha, getting brother or sister will be nice but it isn't going to happen, at least for a while. Maybe never... I tell her "No" but she doesn't got the concept of "No" yet..... I'm trying to teach her to stop barking. It is O.K. to bark once or twice to let me know someone is outside the door but I don't want her to continue barking, you know. I'll keep working on teaching her "No" and hope she will get the point someday!!! Thanks all. Kana:D |
