Trying a new approach... So I have been trying to get my puppy to go to the potty outside, but the more I do this, the more I think a pee pad might be a better idea. I can close him off in a room with a baby gate, crate, toys, pee pad during the day while I am in class, that way he isn't trapped in a crate for 4-5 hours and doesn't have accidents in his crate. My one problem is I have no idea how to train him to use the potty pads. He likes to chew them up. I got a holder for it so he can't tear it from the edges now, but he is still chewing and ripping them up from the middle. How can you get him to stop doing this? Also what are the best ways to train him to use the potty pad and when do you think it would be safe to leave him on his own in the room and trust him to potty on the pads? |
very good question...i don't have the answer, however i am CONFIDENT someone here will. Have you tried using the search feature for previous questions similar to this? there may be some great answers there :) Good luck!! |
there is some great advice under the "recommendation for those who use pee pads" this person had the same problem you're having. Just search pee pad training...towards the bottom of the page :) |
thanks! |
Might try the Pooch pads since someone wrote about having luck with them. Any other thoughts out there? |

I also reccomend a belly band till you have him 100% potty trained. You will feel so much comfort taking him places if he has a belly band on. Here is my boys with "wee-wee wraps" |
