Need Help I need some advice my puppy is coming home in 2wks what would be easier pee pads or taking her outside? I have been back and forth with both and can't decide what to do. I would like to do both but do u think that will confuse her? |
ok now im going to tell you what i have expiernced but someone will come on right after me and say that it was totally different for them. but here goes. i did both once. it was a nightmare. my dog was always looking at me. like well which is it today? outside or inside? so i changed to outside only. and it has worked like a charm, they say repetition is the only thing that really works for them. so i also have a friend who just got accepted into vet school and im an animal behavior major. yay im a senior, and they (the proffessors) always show in expierments...that the dog or animal in question needs one place to eliminate and only one. so that may be why its always worked for me. however someone else will say no, both worked for them. or only inside worked for them. i think it depends on whats easiest for you. also my professors say that going inside also confuses them becuase all the dogs see, is...its ok for me to go inside. so why is the rug or living room carpet any different than the pad? but like i said someone else will say that the pads have worked for them for years. lol but for me and my 2 dogs. outside is perfect. they know absolutley no where in the house is ok. only outside with grass on their bellys. so good luck! |

What u are saying does make sense thank u:) |
well, I'm going to say that it works both ways for me. We got our baby in Dec so we chose the pad. Hubby took him out one warm day and he went all on his own. We kept watching his habits and noticed when he pooped and took him out 1st thing in am. He does both to this day and if we wake up too late on weekend he just uses pad. He seems to pee a lot so it's nice that he can use the pad. We have gone for long car rides and been out for a long day and he holds its when he has too but it's nice to know he doesn't have to with the pad. And it's nice to know that I don't have to worry if I get caught in traffic coming home. Good luck whichever way you choose.:) |
I have 3 dogs. 1 is an outside only, 1 is inside only, and the other will do both! If I had my way they would ALL do both. Having carpeting put a real snag in potty pad training but its the way to go IMO. It means there is always some where to go. Rain, snow, road trips and just about anything else that comes up wont stop them from having a potty spot. I have washable pads from littlebit. I love them. |
Hello! congrats on your new puppy!! I guess it is a matter of personal preference and the time you will have around the day to be aware of potty breaks... Mine go outside, and sometime I also tried the pee pads... no luck, they thought they were allowed to pee "inside", and from the pads they went to the carpets... We use tinkle bells on the door, and even when we have accidents once in a while, I can say mine are outdoor trained, and I am glad I don't have to spend extra money on pads... Hope that makes sense and helps! |
