Potty Training & Pup-Head
 
This is my first post to YT.
I don't yet have a Yorkie as I'm still in research mode. I've been evaluating breeds, our lifestyle and other factors before I approach the idea of adopting. I'm leaning heavily toward a Yorkie but I've still got a few issues to iron out. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the Pup-Head litterbox system. I've read some amazing testimonials, but I'm wondering if anyone has tried it with their Yorkie...

Welcome to YT! I have never used that. I use washable Potty pads.

I tried all the competition and my dogs would not go on those. Maybe the scented grass is the secret. It sure is expensive!

I must admit, the problems I hear about potty training Yorkies has me somewhat concerned. If we do adopt one, something will have to be arranged to provide the little thing with potty options during the day while we're at work. Ugodog and Wizdog products seem to get rejected fairly regularly by Yorkies so I was hoping Pup-Head would be an option. The idea of disposable pee pads being shredded and tossed doesn't seem like much of a solution either... And the fact that washable pads can easily get confused with any other fabric laying on the floor (yes, we sometimes don't get everything picked up...) makes them less than desirable. But I'm really open to any corrections or other suggestions...

Yorkies can be somewhat hard to train in the potty issue. I think it depends on how much time you put into it.

I have 4 yorkies and none of them are 100% trained. I finally started putting "wee-wee wraps" on my males for when they have free roam of the house. My females pretty much use the washable potty pads and as long as I'm on top of it, they go outside for the morjority of the time, but from time to time we still have accidents.

Well i bought Oscar 3 months ago. I use Weewee pads because i work longs hours. He - knock on wood- took right to them. He pees only on the pads... the doody im not always so lucky with. I dont know where any of you live but there is a place in Brooklyn that sells a huge box of 100 for 30. Then again... he refuses now to go outside!

Kwipper, on what information or data do you base your assertion regarding UGODOG and Wizdog?

My comments about UGODOG and Wizdog being rejected were based on posts in the archive here on YorkieTalk. I certainly have no personal experience as we don't yet have a Yorkie.

I recommend finding a nice daycare for your dog during the day time!
