Barking and growling at everyone Now that it is nicer outside, Ambrose and I have been going on a lot of walks, but he growls and barks at everyone we meet. Nothing seems to work. Do you have any suggestions? |
Have you tried taking treats with you? When you approach a person or animal, try to have Ambrose sit and wait to get the treat. That might help equate meeting people and pets with good things instead of his going into "protect" mode. We do pretty well on walks, but we're dealing with the barking when someone has the nerve to walk past our house!! ;) |
My problem is that Pixie literally SCREAMS with excitement when seeing other dogs especially if they are running off leash..i think the problem is that she wants to run with them but i am not happy about letting her off in case i can't get her to come back and i'm afraid she would get injured being so small...It can be a bit embarrassing when people see this tiny 3lb yorkie making such a racket..she's not being aggressive though...i have no clue how to deal with her.. |

I'm working hard on it with treats. Most of the time, Coby is more interested in the treats (if they're good enough). I can see small improvement, but with summer coming and more people outside - I'll take any anti-SCREAMING tips myself. ;) |
Me too! Me too! I'd love some tips. Meeko doesn't care the treats. I've brought drifferent kinds on walks. Won't even pay attention to apple or bananas and he LOVES them. The spray bottle and coins in a can doesn't phase him either! Please help! |
Well, not that I'm glad you guys are having wild & crazy, screaming, barking yorkie problems, but I am glad to hear that I am not alone. To the point that we can't take Lexie anywhere (not enjoyably anyway). Tried the treats while on a walk; she's to riled up to even care or even notice them right in front of her mouth. Where is the dog whisperer or the "It's Me or the Dog" lady (Victoria???) when we need them? |
