Help my dog is such a baby!! MY dog is 5 and half months but the thing that is a problem is that he is such a baby!! I understand that he misses me but this is too extreme! Basically everywhere I go in the house he follows arund and I can not even go to the bathroom for a split second when I close that door he barks. Simply felix won't stop barking and whining whenever I close the door on him or run upstairs or downstairs he always wants to be around me. Is anyone else having this problem do they start getting better and realizing that we are not going anywhere? Can anyone give me advice on how to let them know not to bark and whine whenever you leave them for even a split second. I know eventually and hopefully when he gets older it gets better but this is too extreme! Its like he is a shadow. I can't go anywhere in the house with out him following and barking whenever I leave him alone for just a minute or so he barks. |
Welcome to life with a yorkie. Mine is the same way. Actually my other dog is the same way but he doesnt bark and whine all the time anymore when I shut the door. I really dont have any advice other than telling him no. Good luck and Welcome to YT. |
Ditto. I think Yorkies are like that. Let him follow when he can, otherwise ignore the barking. In other words, don't draw attention to it. Give him a toy to interest him.........say, "Mommy will be right back"..........Mine do it too, but I think it's kinda cute! |
Do you guys any idea at what age they start to become more indepandant and not whine and bark so much? Its cute but then again its almost like don't be such a baby! |
If you ignore the behavior then reward him when he is good it shouldn't take that long to get him to stop. BTW, where in Illinois are you locate? Just curious |
Lacy's not like that. She'll come to see where I am, then go off to her business. Cruz on the other hand follows me around everywhere. He's such a mama's boy. I don't mind though. It doesn't bother me at all. |
Mine, at 7 months, pretty much follows me wherever I go. I have a "toilet room" inside the bathroom. If I go in it and close the door, he stand outside and sniffs under the door. If I let him in, he sits and my feet and chills like he's protecting me. Funny, just now, I'm in the kitchen cooking dinner...and he was laying in the floor and I walked in in the living room and said stay with daddy....then I heard "what's the matter boy, you don't always have to be up her ass"! It is the truth...I think it's the nature of the yorkie...personally, I don't mind...he is at the age that the doesn't whine so I think that will get better for you in a few months...good luck! |
rosie follows me into the bathroom and if i close the door before she gets there she will sniff then bark until i let her in, i dont mind at all its kinda sweet that they love you sooooooooo much wendy and rosie :rose: :yorkiesar |
BOTH my girls are like that too - I think it's a yorkie thing....I love it - |
It's a Yorkie thing. ESPECIALLY when they are babies. Baxter used to follow me EVERYWHERE. He doesn't do it as much as he used to-I wish he still would. Chloe doesn't though. NOT like Baxter did. I wish she would. :p |
Deegan's doesn't really do that. He does follow me, but he's not constantly on my heels, and he doesn't bark if I go to the bathroom. However, my sheltie Mickey (RIP) was like that. He wouldn't bark when I was in the bathroom, but he would cry and whine alot until I came into sight. It just means they love you! |
I am from a small town called Schaumburg, IlL Recons Mama, anyhow well this guy barks all the time whenver I leave his side so I have to get use to rewarded him once he stops I guess..he is just such a baby |
MINE IS LIKE THAT TOO.WHEN I GO TO THE BATHROOM SHE HAS TO GO TOO. I LOVE IT I THINK ITS SO CUTE. :p |
Bruce is 6 months and he is like this, in fact he has gotten worse. It is so bad that it has interfered with my dating, because a lot of people cannot stand how much babying and constant attention he requires. People tell me it is because I treat him like he is a little person, but I think it is because he is a little Yorkie. Trust me you would be sad if your little guy was all aloof and totally independent! |
mine follow me everywhere!!!!!! |
Over a period of fourteen years, Muffin wanted to be with me. She followed me to the bathroom every night while I bathed. She waited at the door and looked for me to come home when I was gone, even though she had other people with her. She watched me from a window when I was working in the yard that was outside her fenced yard. When I was working in her fenced yard, she came out to be with me. She slept in my bed. She loved me and I loved her. She was a yorkie. They are companions and need companionship. They are definitely people dogs... :D And how I wish she was still here to follow me wherever I go. :( |
Both mine are like that. Mickey is my Shadow he gos every where I go . Minnie is my lap baby she always wants held. I love my two and would never want it any different. see My nick name . Yorkie Shadow lol. |
. i find with my lexi , i cant get anything done... she is constantly at my feet. do know how many times she gets stepped on? alot....do you know how many times i fell over her trying not to step on her? alot... sometimes it drives me insane.... where ever i am, she is..... if i try to read a magazine, i cant, she jumps up at me at grabs the paper.... if it falls she grabs it and runs like hell..... its just me and her.... she loves me.. and i love her.... my only baby... |
Mine wants to go with me every where but she sure misses my husband when he has been gone somewhere, so she will leave me to go to him, as long as I don't have keys or my purse in my hand lol!Her mom ( whom we see alot,) doesn't seem to follow her owners around and she sure is very smart! |
Mine follows me everyyyyyyy where. When i go to the bathroom he jumps up on my lap and on to the sink where i give him a drink. He sleeps with me,sits in the bathroom when i tale a shower you name it and he is there.I often trip over him(have to be careful)When i leave the house he sits on the back of my couch glaring out the window waiting for me for at least 20 min.But i love it that he follows me around cuz i am his mummy. It seems to me that most of you make your yorkies way to dependant on you. When all you need to do is stick him/her outside for a while.(In the back yard) Whenever your yorkie starts to get all needy, to the point he's barking while your in the bathroom or just doing your own thing. and let him play with the cats for a while. (If you have cats) |
Maximus is almost 6 months and I basically can't go anywhere inmy house without him there by my side..when I need to pee he is either at my feet or trying to sit on my lap...lol, when I shower he is waiting outside the curtain to lick my legs when I get out, when I am eating/reading/looking at something he is in my lap trying to be a prt of it...He even helps me get the groceries and unpack them because he can't stand the fact of being alone...I love this about him and I wouldn't change him in any way..although he fels needy sometime it's just out of love that they want to be with you (thier pack leader) |

yorkies are meant to be spoiled and they need human contact yorkies need to be with you and we love being with our yorkie thats why there so attached and as we are to them |
I agree with Browniesmom. Yorkies may be very dependant on us, but that's because they are our constant companions. They love to be with us, and we love being with them. I wouldn't have it any other way! Quote:

I'm glad that we have a very small house. Tucker can see us from almost any room. He just needs to know where I am. My teenagers still follow me into the bathroom until I throw them out, so I can put up with a 4 month old puppy! |

A yorkie should not be just put outside alone. There is alot that a little dog can get into when outside alone. The thing is to train him not to act this way. Not to ignore him. |
