Help..only on night #2 So I just got my new baby girl..hubby and I haven't decided on a name yet. We're having a big problem. She seems to be quite the little whiner! We love her to death already but I have only gotten like 2 hours of sleep the last two nights. She has her crate in our bedroom and when its time to go night night, she is placed in her crate, BUT...she instanly cries and yaps all night long! Is this normal for the first few days to be this way? Is it bad to leave her in all night crying? And this morning I left her in the kitchen, I blocked off the section for her. She has her food, water, toys, bed and blanket, plus the pee pads, when I left I could hear her crying! It breaks my heart. She is only 8 1/2 weeks, am I doing the right thing in leaving her in her crate at night even though she is crying the entire time? Or is she still too small of a baby pup that maybe I need to not leave her in there? I need help or any suggestions you all may have. I work 8-5pm. I'm close to home so I will check on her during breaks and lunch time. I'm also wondering if I'm confusing her by only putting her in the crate at night time???? please help! thank you all so much!!! |
Congratulations on your new baby. She is so young to be away from her mother and siblings. That is why she's crying I would guess. She is now lonely and frightened. Try putting a stuffed animal or two in her crate so she has something to curl up to. Second put a blanket or sheet over the crate so she feels secure but she can see out. I would crate her while you are out of the house for her safety. Leave a radio or tv on so she hears noise. It will take some time. She's a tiny baby and scared to death. I feel for you. It takes lot's of work and patience before it gets better but it will. |

I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I'm trying to make it as easy as possible for her. I will try putting in a stuffed animal so she has something to curl up to. I'm going home today at lunch time to see how she is doing, I think I'll leave the TV on for her. Poor thing! We'll see how tonight goes, I'm not kidding, I must have gotten an hour of sleep. She was whiny all night! |
i got my little yorkie at 7 weeks and he did the same thing too the first couple of nights we left him in the crate. That was about two weeks ago and he is doing so much better in the crate and does not cry at all at night or when we put him in the crate. I always give him a treat when he goes in his crate so he sees it as a positive environment. Also, I put an old t-shirt that had my scent on it and he would snuggle with it and that seemed to comfort him too. Good luck. I know it is so tough at first! |

Thank you! Seems like I will need to wait it out...I figured its going to be a matter of time. I will try putting the old t-shirt in there! that seems like a great idea. I just went home to check on her and she was doing okay..still whiny but calmed down after I put in the stuffed animal. What kind of treats do you give your puppy? |
oooh Mom she is lonley and scared...Apollo did that for about 10 min when i put him in my bed ;) he quied right down and snuggled up to me. I just put him a couple of times during the night on his peepad, he did his thing and went right back to sleep like a happy little camper :D he never peed to bed. Rosi allways slept with me too and never wet to bed and she was only 8 weeks old. |

At 5:30am this morning we were so tired that I put her on our bed and she was instantly quiet and fell asleep. I know she just wants to be with us but I'm not sure i would want her on our bed until she is potty trained completely. I'm also scared she might fall of the bed and she is so tiny right now. I think it will have to be the crate and hope that she adjusts to it... |

Sometime it helps if you put the crate right next to the bed on the same level. She can see you and you can comfort her with your touch. Good luck!! A lot of people can't take it and just put them in their bed. :D |

Welcome to YT!! Congrats on your new baby!! and hang in there!!! I am a believer in crate training,, all 3 of our girls sleep in their crates,, its their "safe place" though Trixie,,25 weeks is less than thrilled with hers all the time (she got me up twice last night but I think it was the storms etc bothering her,, i'd take her to the puppy pad to Potty,, and she didnt either time,, i put her straight back in her crate,, she now makes no more noise,, but for all of our girls,, when I first crated them overnight,, they had a windup clock (ticking),, and an old tshirt i'd worn (so your smell is on it) in there with them,, and a heating pad UNDER the crate to keep them warm when they were tiny,, they really can't take being cold,, and yours is SO young,, surely hope it all works out soon for ya,, maybe over the weekend you can get some much needed sleep! Good Luck!:aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |

My crate was way to big to put on a table so the first couple nights I would end up on the floor with a blanket and pillow  but after a few nights if he would start I would say "Shhhh nite nite" and he would know I was right there in the bed... I wouldn't turn the light on or say anything else. |
