I Need Help Please!! My yorkie Lucy is just finding her voice and likes to bark at stupid things. She usually sleeps downstairs at night and she would be fine. However, during this past week she has started to bark when we leave her alone down there. She doesn't stop if you squirt her with water or tell her no. She would only stop if you stayed with her downstairs. So, now we figured we will just bring her upstairs to stay with us. Everything was fairly good two nights ago but, last night was a different story. From about 2:30 on she would not stop barking. I don't know what she wanted. She would bark, we would wake up, tell her no, go back to sleep, and then it would start again a few minutes later. I think she is doing it to get out attention but, we are trying to sleep. How do I get her to stop this? My husband is getting sick of it and regrets getting her. I at the end of my rope. I don't know what to do. Thanks. |

Don't know if this will help, but I broke my larger yorkie (Bengie) from barking by taking a newspaper (rolled up) and would slap it against my hand, wall, whatever and repeat "No bark, No bark" until he stopped and then when he did not bark, rewarded him with praise and/or a treat. It worked, he stops now when I say, want me to get the paper? Hope that this helps, I NEVER HIT OR TOUCH THE DOG! I never advocate corporal punishment in any training or breaking of bad habits. Praise and treats work wonders. |
She doesn't need to go to the bathroom. She is paper trained and we keep papers in the room with us in case she needs to go. Maybe I will try the newspaper thing. It just seems like nothing phases her. I also forgot to mention that we have cats and she always barks at them. I cannot get her to leave them alone. I feel so bad for them. |
My Romeo has done that a few times in the night, and both times, it turned out he was barking at something that had scared him. One night it was a balloon in the kitchen, and the other night it was a stuffed Dora the Explorer doll. I had to really watch him and follow him to figure out what it was. Once I got whatever he was barking at and put it up, he was fine. Believe me, I know how you feel, because he barked almost all night before I could figure out what in the world it was and everytime I'd get up, he'd stop, then I'd get back in bed and he'd bark again. |
