Ok, so I started teaching Meeko bang bang last night, and he did well. After 15 minutes he got the falling over, but he wont stop wiggling or pawing at me. Anyone have any suggestions to keep him still?

I was also wondering how you taught your furbabies to crawl or sit up/beg? I tried to hold the treat above his head to get him to go up on his back legs, but he wasnt working. Is that how you guys did it? Thanks for you help!!

Maybe Meeko is just slow to die. Not quite as effective as dead...but sounds cute.

For beg...have him sit. Then have the treat just beyond his nose...not so far he feels like he has to stand UP on his hind legs to reach it.

I haven't taught crawl, but I have been told....teach them down...once you've gotten that accomplished have them go into the down position...then hold the treat...just out of their reach in front of their nose...while repeating crawl. My nephew's dog does crawl...to the command... gi joe. :p

My little man is always crazy when I try to teach him commands always wiggling and stuff so I decided to teach commands on my couch first. That way he cant wiggle to much and stay in place instead of running around lol The commands I taught him on the couch was play dead and beg. With beg I would sit him on the couch and then put the treat up near his nose and if he wouldnt try to beg then I would gently pick his paws up while he was sitting and tell him beg and then give a treat. If he wouldnt do it right I would correct him and then give a treat. It took a while and then it worked. After that I moved to the floor knowing he wont be running around like a maniac :) because he already knows the command.
Same thing with play dead. I told him to lay down and then moved him on the side and made him stay still for a few secs while saying play dead and then give a treat and after a while he was doing it himself :)

Hey, sorry I didn't respond sooner. Bang Bang is soo cute! You should try teaching it! Well tried teaching it 2 ways. The first way, the trainer from Petsmart suggested, but he wiggled to much. The second one worked a lot better for Meek, I got that suggestion from a post here, I dont remember who posted it tho. I'll tell you both ways, just incase one way isnt as successful.

The Petsmart trainer suggested putting them in a lay position. Slowly move the treat around their front body, towards their elbows and up behind their back. Their head should follow the treat and roll over to see it. If you're using a clicker or a word to mark the good behavior then mark them over and over untill they are rolling over as soon as they see your hand move. Once they are doing it consistently, start using your one hand to make a gun shape and say bang bang.

The way that worked for me, was putting him in a sit position and pushing him over. Each time, again, mark him falling over correctly. After a while of him falling over every time, start using your hand and word.

I also started to tell him to stay and only get up when I was ok, the release word. Sometimes he'll paw at me but, I tell him to stay and only giving him the treat when he stops pawing me.

The Petsmart training also said if you're planing on teaching Bang Bang and roll over, to first teach Bang Bang on one side. Don't move on to roll over, until they have BangBang down pat and to teach roll over on opposite side. This way they can separate the 2.
