PT Crisis I know their are a lot of threads about potty training but I think my situation may be a little more complicated so if you have any advice I would be forever greatful! Anyway, Charie is now 6 mths and I had him in his xpen while we were gone during the day with a potty pad and he used it and when he was out of the pen he even went to same spot and used his potty pad and he rarely had an accident in the house. So I got a smart idea to take his xpen down and move his pad right next to the door and start taking him outside to potty. I thought with it being by the door he would learn to go outside. Anyway time passed and he's been peeing and pooping everywhere! So apparently I confused the heck out of that boy. So I got a crate and put his bed in there for him thinking he would learn to hold it (in his night crate thats by my bed, he does very well). My hubby puts him in his crate before he leaves for school and he is gone for less than 2 hours and Charlie poops in the crate and he smears it all over him and the crate! I just want him to go potty outside! Someone, I need advice. Oh and the reason I took the xpen down was because he learned to jump out of it and I'm thinking I should buy a top for it and go back to the xpen?:( |
oh!!! these puppy training woes ;) just think once we get through it!! ;) I think someone said on here they could take 3 steps forward & two steps back lol! you probably just gave him too much freedom to soon (I did the same thing in feb) so I just started her right back at square one & she's back to doing better but I would def see about getting the top for the x-pen I think he stills needs to be in it but you also don't want him to get hurt jumping out!! oh these lil devil's!!! |
Been there my dear... We had a similar set up for Meka, until she learned to jump the gate... So we've gotten a crate and have been doing great. Their crate should only be large enough for him to stand up and turn around. If he has room for a bed, then its way to big. I have the small plastic enclosed kind (not sure of the brand), but Meka does great. Keep in mind, you guys cant feed him, then place him in there... Your pup is going to need to potty within 45 min., so if you guys are gone for 2 hrs... yep, he's gonna do it. Its best to feed him early enough so that he has the time to go potty, prior to being put in there :) In the morning, when I get up.. I let Meka out of her crate to use it, eat, play etc... When I leave, she goes in the crate and does fine until I get home at lunch to let her out. Also, maybe starting over with the pee pads, and placing them back in the original spot might be better. Meka too had re-gressed at one point and we had to start over. If he was doing good with them in one area, I wouldnt change it just yet...because it can really get messy...lol. It juse seems that once they are confused, your carpets with be the victim... Hope this helps :) |
