Sophie was a bad girl. We just bought a house and Sophie has been doing really really good considering all the changes up until today. We left about nine this morning and came home at one. Well little miss Sophie must have been very mad because she peed on her bed and chewed the trim on the front door. Boy was her Daddy mad. We had left her alone before and she had done so well. Hubby is wanting to buy that big giant crate at Walmart and put her in it if she keeps this up. I do agree that we can't let her continue to destroy things but I want to be able to leave her out so bad. We have hardwood floors now and even if she has an accident it is not the end of the world but the chewing has got to stop. Does that bitter apple spray really work? Please give me your reviews or any advice you may have. |
the bitter apple works for most, I think! But my sister says her poodle likes it-and I mean LIKES IT! and he is the pickest eater- We just have a good laugh on this one! There is always one in the crowd, ya know:D |
It has worked in the past but ever dog is different as some have liked the taste. I would suggest to get the pen. I know you want her to be loose but if she is angry enough to chew that it could easily have been a plug she chewed...so (JMO) I would get the pen. |
I would also get the pen. You can't spray everything, and they can get into a lot. |
I agree, I would just get the pen. You could spray the door frame and Sophie just might move on to something else. God forbid an electrical wire! Better to be safe then sorry and it will keep hubby happy! |
I would get a large x-pen for her to stay in. I know you want her to have free roam, but since you guys just moved, her surroundings have changed. Cali went through the same thing when we moved. In a couple of months when she gets her bearings, you can try and have her out again. Good luck! |
Bitter apple worked for us but I would still recommend the xpen. This will keep her safe and give you peace of mind. |
My goofball fur-son Tino LOVES the taste of the bitter apple spray...he literally licked it off of the puppy gate we sprayed it on when he was chewing on the gate! I should have known...he is so silly. Luckily he grew out of that "chewing phase" pretty quickly. |
Sophie has never been a chewer on anything other than doors. I guess she is trying to chew her way out. She started that at our old place and eventually stopped when she figured out it wasn't goint to work. We kept her in one room there and had the trim to fix it. I am going to try the bitter apple spray and hope it works. She doesn't have access to the whole house just the living room and utility room where we keep her pee pad. The trim is already wrecked so I am going to try it a couple more times. I hate leaving her anyway and this just makes it that much harder. I just know how bad she is going to hate that pen and it makes it hard for me to do. I stay home a lot with her and take her with me everytime I can. I guess maybe that is why she takes it so hard when I leave. |
