anti-social pup Timmy is my new dog. He was in a kennel for most of his life before I got him. He's 3 years old and it's obvious that he hasn't been around people. He runs away and cowers anytime someone comes near. He's used to me, but even still when i go to pick him up he cowers like he is afraid. Is there any hope of him growing out of this phase and enjoying people. And if so, any tips on how I can help him. Becca & Timmy:aimeeyork |
I would take him on alot of walks, go to parks, take him out to petsmart and other places where people are, and have friends over to the house. Just expose him to as many people as possible |
Make his people experience a pleasant one. Offer him a small treat when you approach him and when friends come over have them do the same. It's obvious he has not had good experiences with humans. Poor baby. He just has to learn to trust and that will take time. Hang in there because one day he will. Love and patience is all it takes. |
Welcome to YT! if he's lived in a kennel for all his life up tll now, i'd say its going to take him lots of time and loving,, but socialize him as much as possible,, and REALLY wish you good luck in his potty training,,, |
Poor little guy. My advise is to take it slow with introducing new people or places. Given time he should out grow most of it but he has very little trust in people and first he must learn to trust you. It will be a very slow process and under no circumstances should it be rushed or you might have a fear biter. They do learn to trust again but first must become comfortable at your house. |
