Ultrasonic Remote? Anyone? Has anyone tried an ultrasonic training device? PetAgree has one that is a remote (no collars) with a button to make a sound that dogs don't like and humans can't hear. Its supposed to stop barking, reinforce commands, etc... I'm pretty interested, but I wanted to see if anyone on here has tried them with any luck... I'm not interested in the bark activated ones because I don't want to completely inhibit the barking for security reasons, just the meaningless leaf-floating-by-the-window barking ;) . Thanks! |
Sorry I don't know anything about it but I'm curious to hear what others say. Thanks! |
We had a remote trainer....you push a negative button when they do something bad and then a postitive one when they stop, etc. We used it on our walks (for the big dogs) and in the house (for LG's barking). It seemed to work okay...but after awhile, it seemed like they got "immune" so to say, to the sound. We would carrying it on our walks because there are some dogs at a house down our road that follow us and bark nonstop, but it didn't phase them...maybe we were not close enough! We have since been using an empty soda can w/ some marbles or pennies in it...shake that a few times when LG starts barking and she quits! We have three of these around the house...and they seem to work well! |
I have one of these types from many years ago. It does work for some dogs. I found it works for smaller dogs better than larger dogs. I would give it a try, it may work and if not, you can always return it. Good luck |
We have one that we've had from a previous dog (that it did nothing for). When Coby was little, we tried it for barking. Didn't work. So we did pennies in the can, which worked for a while. Then he got "immune" so we switched to the spray water bottle. That worked for a long time, but then I swear Coby just started barking to get a drink from it! So we tried the ultrasonic remote again. Works like an absolute charm!! So in my opinion, for Coby, training is like shampoo... you have to switch brands every once in a while or it loses it's effectiveness. ;) I've read bad things about the bark-activated ones. We just keep it handy and press the button. |
Yea, the bark activated ones creep me out a bit because I WANT him to bark at strangers intruding, and alerting the presence of people around the place... but I don't want him barking at people Mommy allows into the house, lol. I think I'm going to get one of the remote ones so I don't need to worry about a collar and all of that. Thanks for everyone's input. :) |
