grooming tips much needed!!! Does anyone have any tricks on how to hold their pup while trying to brush around their mouth?!?! i can brush and comb k'nute's body ok if someone holds her and slowly gives her a treat, however when i try to comb around her mouth and eyes she gets very aggressive! she will bark, jerk, yip, spaz, and try to bite me or the comb. What should I do? |
same problem Brushing around the mouth is a two person job-if you have an extra hand- usually my husband gives our Chibi something to chew on while I brush around Chibi's mouth. You have to be really gentle and tell your little one that she is being a good girl. Eventually she should let you do it more easily. It's really a challenge with some little Yorkies. Good luck! |
I agree about giving your pup something to chew on...whether its a treat or just some sort of toy/bone. Also, if she has tangles, try to hold the hair as close to her face as possible and it will minimize the pain when detangling. :) |
Rufus absolutely loves those hyde chew sticks so while he's happy chewing on that he'll let me do anything, though recently, as if he's getting used to it he will let me comb him by just holding his head still with a thumb on his head and a finger under his jaw, I started by just doing it for a few seconds, then worked up to doing his whole face. If you let them have something really nice while it's happening to begin with then they seem to make a good association, it just seems to be simple training. Good luck, Lisa and Rufus |
thanks for all the advice! all your pups sound so well behaved. whenever i try giving k'nute her favorite treat or a nice bone she will chew on it until she sees the comb, then she forgets all about her little treat and just goes for attacking the comb....grrr....but i'l keep trying :D |
i found the solution :) apples! my lil pup loves bits of apple...grooming has now been a breeze :p |
