I'm soooooo embarrassed!!!!! I am so tired of the barking! He is fine when he is home with us (unless someone comes to the door). But, anytime we leave the house and he sees a person walking or another dog...he totally freaks out barking, squirming, etc. It makes me crazy. I have been working and working on the "no bark" command and on the "Look at me" command. It works well when we are in the house...but anytime we are outside I might as well be talking to a brick wall. He just completely loses it! I tried the pennies in the coke can trick and it doesn't phase him a bit. He also does this when we go to the vet and it is just soooo embarrassing. I feel like everyone thinks I have no control over my dog...and in these moments I feel the same and it is very discouraging :(. Thanks for letting me vent! |
Hi Khristina, Murfee used to do that too. We just kept working on the No Bark and he is finally better. It took us a looonnnnggg time though. Good luck |
I feel your pain, my two do this when they see another dog, no matter how big the dog is  very embarrassing , mine dont just bark , they scream  </IMG> |
Just keep trying... Not sure how old your pup is... But if he is on the young side, you have to be a bit more patient (as Im learning myself :) ) Dont give up, he'll get it... |

I know how you feel, my Pom is a horrible barker and when I take her to the vet I literally have to hold her she's 11 lbs and rock her like a baby standing up or she barks incessantly. If I try and sit down she barks. I cringe when another dog walks in she goes crazy. She is 11 years old and I cannot control her barking. |
Have you tried a training class? We took Shelby to a class at petsmart when she was 6 mos old. It was an 8 week class. Not only did we learn some basic obedience but Shelby got used to lots of other people and dogs around. By the time we finished the class... she was much more relaxed. You may want to give it a try! (the class I was in had 5 min of "social time" for the dogs.... which was great!) |
He's 9 months old. I do keep working on the "no bark" command...I do have hope since he does respond to it sometimes. And, I agree about the class idea. This being my first puppy I need some help. I e-mailed someone and will be enrolling him in a 10 week class that starts next month. I think it will be fun! But, in the mean time....the incessant barking is going to drive me batty ;) |
Girl i feel your pain! My little miss sophie decides to bark at every dog when i am walking her. If i pick her up it's worse cause then she will do a little squeel. I was watching an episode of dog whisperer the other day that was a situation like this except with big dogs, what he did was he kept walking and pulling the dog right next to him as if the dog wasn't barking at all, completely ignoring him and not 'feeding' him energy. I decided to try that with Sophie and so far it's been going pretty good. If i just keep walking she will forget and keep walking with me, and i pull her close to kinda snap her out of it. She still does it sometimes but less and less. I'm going to keep trying. If you feed it energy they will think they are doing good by barking and keep doing it. |
