very frustrated... do i need to wake up earlier???? okay, sorry to post the billionth thread on potty training, but i'm desperate. it's not even about the peeing really, but the pooping is getting on my last nerve!! kash does very well to go pee outside first thing in the morning when i take him out. and i KNOW he has to poop, but with the grass being wet from dew, and the cold climate, he refuses to poop outside!!! his feet and under belly get soaking wet, and he stands at my feet, shivering and whining. he whines until i give up and take him back inside. sometimes he doesn't even bother standing at my feet, he'll just run up to the back door and wait there. then, as soon as surrender to his will, he poops inside the house! i'm standing out there with him for 15 minutes at a time... is that not long enough? i thought it was... but at this point, i feel like it doesn't matter how long i stand outside with him, he'll just hold off until we go back inside. this morning when he wouldn't poop outside, i locked him in the kitchen instead of letting him hang out in the bathroom with me like usual. when i came back downstairs, he hadn't pooped, so i took him back outside. again, he just stood there and whined. i took him back to the kitchen, and he pooped. does anyone have any suggestions? do i need to wake up even earlier so i have more time to wait outside with him?? thanks! |
we used to have the same problem with chewy when we first got him, and that was just 2 months ago...what we did is we got pee pads and did it in steps...when he pooped in the house we took a pee pad and set it ontop of the area and sometimes put his poop on the pad, then he started pooping around it and then finally on it and it only took a few days if that...then u know where he is going when he is going to poo so if u see him sniffing there then u just pick him up and bring him out...its a pain...but it worked...also we read that everytime u bring him outside make sure he is on a leach because otherwise he thinks its play time, this is really what sealed the deal for us...! it great now, he goes right after he eats in the morning, then in the afternoon and we dont have to worried about it all night long...! itsg reat! GOOD LUCK! |
bump... threads get pushed down the line pretty quick! just wanted to keep this one in the loop for a little while to get more responses. Thanks! |
I've found that if I just take them out to go and stand there telling them to go they don't always want to go but if I put leashes on them and take them out in front and walk up to the corner and back they always poop! |
Walking them around stimulates their bowels...so walk him around the yard for a bit and he should go |
I use the pee pads..Ginger is 7 mos. old and she still poops on the pads at night between 11-6:30...will he use the pee pads? The biewer I rehomed was like that, but, I wouldn't let her back in the house until she went, and I would have a treat ready for her.. |
Pee Pads are the best. |

Your pup is very young. I use a retractable leash attached to Remi's harness. I started this routine immediately upon bringing him home his first day. I also encourage him by saying "hurry up", etc., and now he performs almost everytime I take him out, on command. One mistake I made when Remi was quite young , was taking him in too quickly after he pooped. I didn't realize that he wasn't quite finished outside and he would quickly finish inside! Patience is a great virtue! Good luck to you. Your pup will do just fine. |
I used a leash with my 14 wk yorkie. First night he came home it was 10 degrees outside and he would whine at my feet. I take him out for 5 mins if its cold. The cold wet weather actually helped with his training. I know he was COLD but he had to learn. I felt bad so if its cold I go out in shorts and just wear my coat. If I cant take it we both go in. Worked out well. |
thanks everyone! i've started using a retractable leash when taking Kash out to potty, and it's already working! this morning he pooped almost immediately upon coming outside even though it was cold. i had to coax him a little by walking around, but he did it! now i just have to see if today was a fluke. lol. thanks guys! |
