Never trained dog before I have never had dogs before I got my furbutts a year ago. I had good luck with potty training and basic behavior. I just used my daycare experience and your great advice. But lately I feel like maybe Im doing my babies a disservice. I cant teach any tricks!!! Not even Sit. Is it important to dogs to do some tricks? Ive heard of a good place in town to do training but they only do 1 dog per person so Id have to pick which baby to take and try with the others at home. Am I a bad Mommy for no tricks? How do I choose which baby to take to training? How much is normal for training to cost? |
Murfee doesn't do any tricks....but he is very good at training us:D |
I can tell you that your first training class will be worth every penny. It will teach you to communicate with your dog and that will develop the best possible relationship. Shop around, get a recommendation from your vet. You will never regret a good training class. |
Petsmart Maybe you should take him somewhere else, such as petsmart or petco... they're usually very lenient about 2nd dogs or other people coming to watch. Einstein just started his classes last week and he has one this week! They already taught us how to teach "watch me" -- and apparently there's gonna be a lot more today! |
I would say the training is more for you than your puppies and yes, I do think it is somewhat important at least for the basics like sit, come, stay and down. I would take the most difficult dog because once you learn with that one, you'll be able to handle the others on your own. Good luck! |
When you said "tricks" I thought you were talking about rolling over, playing dead, jumping hoops, etc. Sit, stay, down, etc. are safety commands. Might save your furbaby's life some day. Good luck. |
